Be a big family blow up or Christmas travels... tell us about your craziest Christmas ever!
For us, it was a ski trip to the French Alps in '03... My youngest son was two and we felt brave enough to attempt travelling with him. (We were still living in England at the time.)
About a week and a half before leaving, my husband and little guy became sick. We toyed with cancelling, but figured as they were sick NOW, it would pass by the time we left.
Boy did we call that one wrong! They both got WORSE. My husband couldn't ski the first several days. On a trip up the mountain, we stopped for lunch. He had altitude sickness on top of being sick. I was so scared and thought he was having a heart attack and was dying!
Then my older son got sick. I tried to keep up beat and positive until about the third night. All three of them were coughing through the night and my husband turned and spewed in my face!
On Christmas Day, my husband didn't even leave the room for Christmas dinner. I took the kids down to try to make the most of it.
Then the next night (our last night there), my little guy started throwing up in the room. We called out the local Dr. and got some rehydrating drink and fever reducer...
It was a long haul home. First, a 2 1/2 drive on a coach bus to the airport in Lyon. Then, our flight was delayed by another 3 hours... my little guy threw up in the airport. :( On the bright side, nobody came near us! LOL
After finally arriving home in England, traffic was backed up and it took over three hours to get home. Poor Mr. P was so ill. He wound up going to the doctor and actually had a sinus infection.
My older son started throwing up the day after we got home.
How I escaped getting sick, I'll never know. I did manage to get a little skiing time on my own. I even had a French ski instructor offer me a "free lesson" during one of the rides up the cable car... I don't speak French but took my glove off and showed him my ring. ;)
The setting at the resort was gorgeous; it started snowing only an hour or so after we checked in. The skiing conditions were great, especially for that time of year.
It's a favorite family story now.
Oh, then there was the year the cat attacked the turkey...
