Ok..I start early. When Halloween comes down the Christmas decorations begin to go up. I spent 21 years in retail and never seemed to get to enjoy my own stuff...which started the early decorating. Anyone else as bad as me?? I fugure that I have so many beautiful things that I love, I need to enjoy them more!!

I start early also. I cant wait to start I actually want to start now, but everyone is like geez you should wait until the first snowfall at least. Well I heard its calling for snow on Wednesay here...(Ah love Christmas but not a huge fun of cold..snow means cold)..but if it does snow I just might start the decorating..:-)

The tree and inside decorations don't go up until the second weekend in December.
Last year, our first year for ourdoor lights, were put up the first weekend in December. I really don't like stuff decorated before/on Thanksgiving - one holiday at a time!

December 1st is when the stuff comes out. And it all comes down after our annual New Years party.

I drag the boxes down from the attic on the day after Thanksgiving and start organizing them for the decorating activities which will go on for at least a week. Boxes must sit on back porch until opened or I'm in trouble. Some people feel that the disaster-area, just-moved-in look is not very festive. Hrmpf.

I put a few things out just before Thanksgiving, but most of it goes up the day after, we go get a tree, decorate it , which usually takes a couple of days now, mostly do it myself, kids are grown, hubby puts it up, I do the rest. Then start on sll the other stuff. Takes me 3 or 4 days at least.

Being from the UK, the tradition was to put up decoration 12 nights before and take them down 12 days after. This is not one of the traditions that I have carried over... we decorate the first weekend after Thanksgiving.

I start pulling the boxes out of the basement the day after Thanksgiving. I have that Friday off and took off Monday also this year so I hope to get a lot of my decorating done in that weekend. I don't go out shopping on black friday.

Day after Thanksgining. Then I go into a mad rush trying to get it done in one day and put all the boxes and totes away the next day. I can't stand the clutter. of course after a few egg nogs one day turns into two then three....

A lot of people are testing the waters here and decorating a little bit to see if someone else will follow thats what it seems like anyway. One house is decked all out! So i bit and put the wreath on the door and candles in the windows lighted garland up and all the indoor stuff. I am still debating to go all out in the yard tommorow or not. Might just set it all up and hit the switch on december 1st. I started a week early aherm or two who is counting :D

Ive already started. However, we are having a Thanksgiving dinner with all our close Friends this Saturday (after thanksgiving day). So, the fiance wont let me bring out the good stuff until after Saturday. I get "Were celebrating Thanksgiving not Christmas yet". So, looks like this coming Sunday will be my big decoration day.

Day after Thanksgiving. I had it down to a science, but we moved to a larger apartment just before Halloween and I have to work out a new arrangement this year....

Either the immediate weekend after Thanksgiving or the following weekend. It depends on if I'm working or not... and it usually lasts for a week... I take my sweet, lazy time.

This year, we will be starting, around the 16th to get Christmas up. Allow us time to clean inside the house and get things freshened up and ready for those Decorations to go up.

I usually start the Christmas decorating my first days off after Thanksgiving. This can vary year to year but is generally the Monday after. Gives us plenty of time to enjoy and depending on how frustrating the year has been they get packed up right up after Christmas day or just after New Years.

given a choice I would like to have the outdoor lights up so i can turn them on day after thanksgivng. But I am always behind. But not before thanksgiving. Several of my neighbors turned theirs on the day after halloween. Now that is just crazy.

I usually do lights 1st weekend of November so that I can get them on the roof before the snow. I will not light them til after Turkey Day. I also will not put any holiday props or decor in yard til then as well.

Thanks to Chris, and others, I think I will start putting lights up this weekend. I've been working on all the stuff inside and like Mr. Griswold, I need to get the stuff done on the roof before that snow flies!

I would like to keep them up all year long (the lights at least)
But my husband doesn't let me put up decorations until two days after thanksgiving (after Black Friday). And he makes me take them down 2-3 days after chistmas.
Although we keep our tree until around New Years for our friends' annual bon fire.

I know what you mean. When I lived in SD I had to put my lights up right around mid Nov (although sometimes we would already have had several snows) and many times I could not find them to take them down until after April. Of course by then they were usually rusted to death from sitting under a foot of snow for all those months so I had to throw them away. cry:
Yeah, I really do not miss the snow that much.

too funny chris! I just got done putting away my Halloween decorations. I will take a breather and clean up again then start to do Christmas. It will be all done inside and lit except for the outside for Thanksgiving . This is the one holiday we don't have to do any traveling cause I cook the dinner and we really enjoy that. Then I start outside that week.

The day after Thanksgiving is when we start pulling out the decorations. We trade out all of the dishes for our Spode collection! And I usually bake some Christmas cookies of some form and put them out. And we definitely start taking down all the photos and put up all of our Christmas photos. And we set up our display(s) of Christmas tins. And usually we do some of the outside lights, but we don't really get into the rest of the decor until December.
I can't wait!!

The tree is scheduled to be delivered Dec. 3 or Dec. 4. I'm taking the 4th off of work so I can devote time to the tree. It would be nice to have everything else done before it arrives. We'll see.

At work, we are going to start working on it the Monday before thanksgiving. I will be doing some pre-wiring then. Probably set the whole thing up on Thanksgiving day if I can get the lift! Maybe the day before.... but won't turn it on until the day after Thanksgiving!
But I have been planning for this since last January! :D

We almost always decorate (or at least start decorating) Thanksgiving weekend. :) That's the tradition in my household. So our Christmas stuff is up for about a month or thereabouts.
ETA: Oops, sorry, that's more like six weeks, then. I take down probably the end of the first week of January.
I like to extend the autumn feeling all the way until Thanksgiving; then that's IT--everything turns, red, green and artificial snow-covered, LOL. I loooooooooove the holidays. All of them.

Ok i have started.. i have colored icicles around the porch top.. then regular color strings around the front windows and door... Happy holiday lighted sign hanging off the porch.. each of the huge white posts (4) wrapped in red ribbon, then wrapped the entire cyclone fence with red.. just need to do the Down posts... Half of my lights arent working this year and my dad just happened to blow up my chasers... he knew better!
I was out having fun, hearing my christmas music and BOOM, the idiot neighbors across the street fired up the wood spliter.... i had choice names for them!...
now i just need more lights to do the fence and christmas tree in the yard.. as well as the tomato christmas trees... haha...
