I realized today that some of the new members here did not realize that some of us are from Larry's Halloween board. Or that this board was created by Larry.
So I just added my links that I have on my signature over on the Halloween board to the signature here on this board. One link is my ongoing building project of my halloween web site & the other gives access to my photo albums where you can find my Xmas pictures too. Have not gotten around to building a xmas web site yet.
I just wanted to mention that if any of us have photos to please share them with everyone here and add a link to them on your signature!

I'm from Hauntforum, so I come at things from a different angle.
My haunt site for the present time is: http://www.santasprojects.com/Corpse_County/ needs updating.

I wonder if we're the only Christmas forum with names like these?
Carrie
06-06-2008, 09:02 PM
Putrid, over on our site, Constantly Christmas, we require the use of real names (gasp! shock! awe!), PlanetChristmas uses a combination of handles and real names, MyHolidayDisplays uses handles pretty much..so out of the 4 I'm on, this one is the only one I know of that uses names like Putrid! LOL

Kind of like when Jack Skellington went to Christmas town.
I use the same nickname on this forum that I use on 3 Halloween forums, 2 musicians forums, a robotics forum, and an engineering forum.

I try to use the same name too Spookineer.....it was hard when I came here & people from the Halloween forum all had different names.......I mean I'm challenged enough in life!!!lol

Ya'll got some great names too. I happen to be doing laundry the day I chose mine. LOL
Totally cool hobbies spookineer. Robotics and engineering rocks! What musician forums do you belong to?
On another forum there was a discussion about possible remission or cure for RRD. I posted some favorable results that I had gotten. The plant produced healthy growth above the infected area. I was automatically dismissed. After all, how can anyone take someone with a name like putrid seriously? (What I had done wouldn't be feasible to do anyway. You'd have to turn your yard into a toxic waste site for it to work. LOL ) I didn't post what I did after that. Got tiered of hearing what I could walk out and see was impossible. I still have one more thing I want to try based on some research done for cancer patients. If it works that forum would be the last place I'd post the results. Unless there was a way I could post a pic of my full moon over a cured plant. LOL
I'm having trouble getting to my free sites from Earthlink's site. I'll find out what's going on and then post the links.

Well, I am not orgional, or creative, couldn't think of a name when I joined Halloweenforum, so went by my given name, I am not ever called that in rel life any way, so it was a little different to me, and whne I joined this forum and hauntforum, it was just easier for this old gal to remember if I kept the same name!!
Man I can hardly keep up with the three forums, Spookineer, Idon't know how you do it man!!

Bethene>>>I'm with you girl......I disappeared from this group after Xmas and went back over to the Halloween board....know why.....I can't handle more than one board either!!!lol
You were really the one that got me back over here when you called on me for the secret santa game. But truthfully I missed Mummy & Sickie too. I seen the others over at the Halloween forum. I would love to join other boards but I don't have time & I like one board.
Ghostess......I give that girl a lot of credit for all the boards she is on plus handling their group activities & she's also on a few yahoo group (halloween) boards.

I faded away from halloween forum -- I love halloween, but I just don't have the time I need to do it like I would like to. And I feel like I'm just not up to par on that site -- forever a rookie. But one day, I'll have mummies, and big fogging urns, and all sorts of spooky stuff. One day.
Now, chirstmas is another thing. Plus I think I got in on this site early enough to develop some good relationships with you great people, that I couldin't just walk away from! (Awww, thanks Muf!)

I've faded away form the Halloween forum as well Mummy deer-est. I'm glad to see there's a lot of new folks there. I don't have all the moving props and digital sound effects most folks seem to want to do. My paper mache and trash to trashy treasures display only moves when it gets real windy. LOL
Here's the link to my small Halloween site. If you follow the Cryptohuantology link from there you'll see some of our past haunts.

Mummy and Putrid, I don't do all the big tech props for halloween, but I love the challenge of creating, and I love my camping haunts, don't do a big house one, so keep plugging away on the halloween forum,
Putrid, i think your halloween is awesome!! It is as good as any ones's there, don't let that keep you away!
There are so many different levels there, I am in the middle.
Christmas was my first obsession, and now I have halloween, so the brain is on over load!!

HF is over whelming with the wealth of information there. Thats why I think I love it so much, everything and anything you are wanting to build can pretty much be found there. I may not post as often, but thats only because there is soooooooooo much to read. It would be tough to keep up to questions and the responses. Ideally, lol I would love a halloween and christmas forum mixed together! Man, that would make things so simple! :D

Elvira, although our board at Constantly Christmas is a smaller group of people, so many of them decorate for Halloween that we get a lot of posts about it. You've given me food for thought..maybe we should expand to include Halloween in a bigger way?
I know I've been decorating for Halloween for years..in fact so much so, I can't really decide which holiday I enjoy more..Christmas or Halloween. I have tons of blow molds that are Halloween themed, have built quite a few props for it (mostly borrowed ideas from Monster List). Its funny though..it seems to me that Haunters are far more into building props than Christmas people are and I'd personally like to see more DIYers making things for Christmas too.
Elvira
06-10-2008, 06:07 AM
I agree, I would love to see more ppl getting into making things for christmas. I to have borrowed idea's from monster list, infact.......... I am building the stone reaper now, and am about to dress him and begin the MM process. That was a fun prop to build. I can't wait for him to be finished, I'm almost thinking I want a second one! LOL
I will have to pop by constantly Christmas and have a peek.

Mummy....glad you surfaced I was worried about you!
Putrid...me too!! I have one ghost that moves around cause I put a fan under her!!!lol No props that get up & walk toward you and talk!!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>YET!!
The stuff they build, that animated stuff I would love to do that stuff but clueless how to startl Of course if you ask them they are more than willing to walk you thru the whole thing! Spookineer is moving by us & he seems to be the dude with the more advanced building techniques than any of us around here......maybe he'll be our teacher!!lol
For me....I always had more xmas stuff, but halloween is growing since we been building.....thats where the idea came from to build a gingerbread house out of my house for xmas. If the store does not have what you are looking for for.....Build, Build, Build!! All ongoing projects!!$$$$$$ know what I mean?
Elvira get some pictures up......I wanna see how you are building those reapers w/ the monster mud!! Thats a project I want to try....I want those Mud Men the Davis Graveyard has!!
I will admit to my lunacy.....I have read ALL the post from day 1 on the hallowen forum in the "party & food section", cause i like that stuff. And I did read quite a few pages of the prop section......man that is just jammed with projects even simple clever projects. My mind gets over loaded. But I'm so happy right now guys with my coffin!! I just love it!!

Muffy - I will most probably be making another set of hands this weekend for "Alice" the mourner statue, these hands I will try to make somewhat more feminine looking and get lots of pics of them so you can see how I did it. Its amazingly simple and the material required is so minimal which is nice, you don't have to run out looking for stuff all the time, I think thats the part I hate most, I seem to kill more time running around then actually building something.
When I was working on the Secret Santa gift, it took me longer to find one part then it did to assemble it.
Carrie - Thank you, when I first looked at how-to's on them, I gasped and thought OMG, no way I can do this, but if I can do it, trust me... anyone can LOL I really suck at creating stuff! So, I can't wait to see the finished product too, this could be interesting! LOL

This afternoon we got the reaper all wired up and now he has 2 speakers playing a spooky greeting wired into his hood. Then this evening I started MM... HOLY MOLY! What a mess! DH had a tim the tool man taylor moment and decided to try spray the first coat on him , well....it worked, however, scrubbing the overspray off the siding was not fun! The reaper is out on my front lawn for the night, I hope hes still there in the morning. LOL

What a night! Between MM and neighbors stopping by I managed to get half of the second coat on the reaper... but get this...... OH man! (BTW, this is my vent for the evening)
My oldest daughter came by to visit with her b/f and course I handed her a paint brush and said "ya wanna visit you get to MM and visit at the same time" Shes the cutest thing, she grabbed a brush and started to goop on the MM. The guy who gave me the german shepherd t-shirts a few weeks ago hes driving by, so he stops to come and see the reaper. Next thing I know the neighbor lady a couple doors down, comes out with her 10 yr old daughter, and well.........she wasn't to interested in the reaper, was more to be nosey. I said hi to her, and asked her what she thought of the reaper. Her response...... We don't do halloween, we are never home on halloween, and you had him out last night on your front lawn and he scared me this morning. I swear to god, the lady never came up for air! So I said.......................LOL I said...... OH good, so he looks great then! My goodness, what do you say to ppl like that? Why did she come over then? Ugh! Anyways, not gonna let that bat get to me. :)
I agree Putrid, I think I will keep him out now til Halloween.... and ... instead of his creepy greeting.... I'll replace it with "good morning, sunshine" Anyone good at doing a grim reaper voice? :D
Thanks bethene, I am working on it, was hoping to get pics tonight, but got sidetracked. Hes actually starting to look quite fun. hehehe
Sales ppl, delivery ppl, newspaper delivery, those ppl preaching door to door. Yeah I think he can stay out front :D

06-16-2008, 04:39 AM
Elvira I think we all run onto people like that. The neighbors on one side of me don't talk to anyone, actually most times they stick their nose up to the air when you say hi or wave to them. Her hubby will say a few words if she is no where in site.
The brother of my neighbor on the other side is renovating his mom's house (she recently passed away). Her house is on the other side of this neighbor that does not speak to us.
So the other night its getting dark & I'm sitting on my porch & here's the 2 of them sneaking over to the house being renovated to snope around. I'm not sure what they thought they were going to see but it just was the nerve of going over there. I saw them going across the lot next to their house.......that lot has a big built in swimming pool that goes along with the house that is being renovate..... so I saw them running across there.
I called my other neighbor, the brother of the guy renovationg & told them....you guys are not gonna believe this but so & so just went over to your brothers place & are snooping around. What the heck they were doing I don't know but they were over there for 45 minutes. People are crazy!lol
Actually I'll share this.......I always say they have survalience cameras on my property cause no matter what time I step out my doors to go outside......here they come & they stand there & stare at you....its very uncomfortable situation w/ these folks. So I told my other neighbor......maybe they were over there installing the cameras!!lol They are both retired military people who I thought would get along great w/ my Veteran Hubby. Not these people.....I always say they are spies!! Even the gals at the beauty shop talk about them!!lol
Muf
Elvira
06-16-2008, 05:31 AM
Oh, isn't that the worst Muffy, I know exactly what you mean about uncomfortable situations. This is true, we all run into them... but... does it mean they have to live in our neighborhoods? LOL
I can't imagine peeking in someones windows to see what kinda of renos are being done, that does take guts for sure.
My daughter (who is 21) said to me after this woman left last night.... "Mom, is that the woman years ago that said she wouldn't buy disney movies for her daughter because she didn't want her to think fantasy was reality". Yeah! Thats the one! My daughter continued to say she didn't think the 10 yr old daughter looked like a happy child. Ya know, I have to agree, she doesn't look like a very happy child at all. My girls always remember halloween and christmas's to be fun and exciting. Maybe we lost touch of the true meaning of Christmas, but my girls have some really nice memories. All the lights, decorations, presents and our whole family getting together. Halloween... every year rain, shine or snow, we dressed the girls and went out TOTing. Some of their fondest memories are on those holidays.
My DH said to me after she left, he didn't think it was a religious belief that stops her from allowing her kids to participate in halloween. He says shes just cheap! Especially when moments after the other neighbor said he would be coming by on halloween night, now all of a sudden she was going to make the effort to stop by. LOL In any event, religious or otherwise, I think her attitude stinks!
:D ty for letting me vent.

Second coat on half of the grim reaper, still have to fill in his hood and his chest, slowly but surely. The speakers are on the side of his head, thats why I haven't filled in to much there yet, I wanted to take my time and be sure it was a thin coat applied there.

Unfortunately, many neighborhoods have people like those people Elvira. The good news is that they are nothing more than a minor irritant in our daily life, but they are stuck in their own miserable world 24/7. Enjoy them for their entertainment value and pity their children. Being deprived of Disney movies is just evil.
You could always call Homeland Security to report their suspicious behavior. But Child Protective Services should definately be told about what they have done to their children.
Elvira
06-16-2008, 06:15 AM
Absolutely spookineer! I can't even imagine depriving my girls of disney movies. Disney is amazing! I do pity her children, you could see the look on her little girls face, she wanted to ask about the grim reaper, but it was almost like she didn't dare. Sad, very sad.

Elvira, that guy looks fantastic! I love it and simply cannot wait to see the finished reaper. I hope you'll keep taking progress pics..I'm such a voyeur! LOL
I feel your pain with the neighbor..she definately needs an attitude adjustment. Best way to deal with her is not to deal with her..ignore it.
But Muffy, if I were you I would wear a special t-shirt, designed just for your spying wack job neighbors. I have one that says BITE ME..really big, bright red letters across the front on a black T. If you want, I'd be happy to send you one! Can you imagine the looks on their faces as you pop outside (they scramble out to stare at you) you wave, stick your chest out, point to the shirt, and smile sweetly!

That reaper is awesome! I wish I had that kind of talent/patience!
Someone on the thread (Putrid I think- catching up on my Christmas Fan Club threads tonight!) mentioned that the Planet Christmas boards were mostly lights. I can tell you that many people do feel that way. I belong to many different boards. If I want to talk lights and animation I head to Planet Christmas. If I want to talk to my local friends, I stop by Texas Christmas Lights. Want intelligent, non-threatening conversation? Check out Constantly Christmas. When I want to talk about my love for inflatables I vist my friends on My Holiday Displays. When I need a Halloween fix I stop by Halloween Forum (which is how I found this place, BTW). And if I want to talk to the DIY/old school Christmas guys I head over to Synchronized Christmas LIghts. And if I want to just check out a WHOLE bunch of stuff about Christmas- from recipes to props, to decorations/games/etc- I come right here to Christmas Fan Club! Lots of places, each with their own flavor. Not all of them are for everyone, but they all offer something for someone. It;s one of the reasons I told Carrie about this place... because I think more people would really like it here. I recommended to another person this week, who does a lot of props as well. So word of mouth is working!
Almost forgot- when I want to blow something up (18 days and counting!) I head over to Pyro Universe... AWESOME fireworks forum and site!

I hope you share w/ us about the overwhelming stuff.......how is that MM to work with....any advice cause I'm gonna try that here pretty soon myself.
Muf
Thank you Muffy, he seems to be coming along ok. It was overwhelming to me because I never ever attempted a large scale prop that would take longer to build than a day. I like to see things done, and close to finished results within a few hrs of starting. When we completed the pvc frame, it still seemed like a long ways away from attaching the hands I had made a week prior. I kept saying to myself, "when will this ever see MM".
The MM is fairly easy to work with, I actually didn't follow the instructions for the mixture, as DH felt that a light thin coat sprayed onto the burlap would make the burlap stiffer and easier to later brush on thicker coats. He was very right! After we dressed the reaper completely, we took him outside and used the compressor and paint gun and sprayed a light coat, we left it over night and the next morning the burlap was stiff enough to brush on where you weren't moving the burlap all over the place. I didn't have to goop it on with my hands for the first coat, so wasn't messy at all (cept for scrubbing the siding from splatters.... to close....ugh!) Thats something to think about when doing it, if you have a compressor and paint gun, its the cats butt! The second coat, was a much thicker mixture, and of course very easy to apply because the burlap was already stiff and laying where I wanted it to. I wasn't fighting to place it because the heavy mixture was moving it. I did get messy hands but that was only because I was readjusting the postioning of the burlap as I wasn't happy with the way I intially laid it. Other than that, its super easy, and a lot of fun!

Oh Ryan, you do have the talent and the patience, and then some! I have seen your website, and the stuff you create is fantastic!
I have to agree, not every board is for everyone, alot belong to several to get their "fix" for lack of better words, and then some just belong to one because thats all they feel they can handle, or just prefer. I myself, have belonged to several, and I just like it here because it is such a laid back forum, and everyone is so helpful, if they don't know the answer, they will go out of their way to find an answer for you. I really like and respect the way Larry runs his forums, and think that plays a huge part as well. If I feel comfortable somewhere, I stay, if I don't I move on. I do like to visit other forums, to see if I could be a part, but I find alot of other forums are very.... "matter-of-fact" here, there is humour, and maybe not christmas related in every post, but that I think is also what keeps ppl coming back.

Hey, I applaud you! I'm almost 40 and have one kid age 3, and another due in January. I came to the realization this week that I'll be in my sixties before they ever decide to move out of the house! That is, if I make it in my sixties. My dad died at age 49, and my mom at age 63. Kinda scary!

I'm 41 *gulp* NO I applaud you! I don't think I could do pampers and toting around a diaper bag anymore. After going thru teenage years, that sort of did me in! LOL
You just never know when its check out time, enjoy life while you can. When I hit 60ish...I plan on vacationing at the raisin ranch...kick back, let them cook for me, and change bedding, all the fun stuff...I'll just pay the monthly rent. My girls think I'm crazy, but I think it'll be fun, I love ppl, and think I could actually enjoy it there. LOL

Thanks Carrie and Sickie, Actually, he still needs his pedestal built then hes complete, not sure when Dh will do that, he said not today...to hot, its 8:00 pm and still 80 out. As far as the reaper part, hes as done as hes gonna be. OH,and still have to add his faux flame to his bowl.
Well, Carrie, lol right now hes standing in my kitchen...hes going to stay there until DH is sick of seeing him :D and has to build me his pedestal. No, actually I think I'm going to attempt building one more and have them on each side of the cemetery entrance. Maybe... depending on time. If not, he'll sit at the corner of my garage. If hes displayed at the cemetery entrance gate, I don't think I will have any light on him.
Not sure I can go thru all that again tho LOL tons of coffee and a whole lot of not so nice words. LOL
