Mummy- I hope today you are feeling better! That's too bad about the garage sale!
Boy Putrid, you sure are ambitious with planting , I need to get going on out door things, today was nice, but didn't feel like getting out after work. I don't think we will be going camping, just working around the house, dang it all, I was looking forward to it. Oh well, that's the breaks:sadfatsanta:

Got another bush in the ground today. An Eastern Snowball Viburnum. Was looking at planting an Oak leave hydrangea but at almost $40 a pot I couldn't get past the price. Also priced mulch. With only two places in town to get the stuff by the truck I figured they'd be about the same in price. Glad to be wrong. For a qubic yard it's $22 at one place and $25 at the other. For the same stuff. I'll need to start with 2 yards and go from there. Got to get a wheel barrel as well. That puppy's gona cost me $70. My last one lasted almost 22 years. If this one lasts that long then the price will be worth it. And to add to all the cost of 'do it yourself' yard work my favorite shovel is getting a stress line in the handle. Haven't been looking for a replacement yet but est. around $30 to replace that. Shovels don't last that long with me. LOL

Unfortunately we don't have Menard's around here Sickie Ickie. I don't think this brand would be much less expensive where ever you bought them. Might be spelling the name wrong, Ames, Aimes? something like that. The shovel has a short wood handle with a hand grip at the top end. The blade is about 4 inches wide by 18 inches long with a very sharp round cutting blade. I can cut threw anything but concrete and stone with this thing. Tree roots, hard pan clay, dry clay, it cuts threw it all. You can cut around a root ball and lift the plant out of the ground with it. Probably why it's got that stress crack now. LOL I have a standard spade. It's blade will buckle and pop back and forth in the same ground my favorite shovel goes threw. Take my word for it folks. If you do any gardening try one of these out for size. You'll never go back to digging with a spade again. However spades are still better for shoveling mulch.
LOL No thanks Elvira. I've had my share of planting trees. Not even for 3 shovels. LOL

Speaking of "Thriller", one day I was surfing web sites & I came across this home haunt that has a dance club come to his house for an "open house ceremony" a week before Halloween & then again on Halloween night. These gals dress up as zombies & do a dance routine to the music "Thriller". Man when I watched that the wheels started turning...what a great way to entertain your TOT's on Halloween night.
They do it in his driveway & he has about 8-9 huge monster mud monks in his driveway. I thought it was a really cool idea in taking Halloween to a different level. If I come across that link I'll post it for all of you. The routine is done both in the daytime & at night, he has the videos of them right on his site.

Well guys I really loved it!! I use to do all kinds of stuff when we had the Diner & people not only like to be entertained but I found myself having to come up with more & more ideas ech year. It was great fun! So I looked up the local dance studios to see what is around.
I found a school I like from the pictures on their site you could see this is a serious school because they compete and just won some big doing down in Concord.
I would plan this for the 2009 season only because we would need to build more stuff outside than what we have now. I have a lot planned for the 2008 season and we have a lot to make in the way of props so I just want to stick to the plan for this year. Besides that my health has to be better than it is right now to handle something like that.
I read on the Halloween forum about Haunts that take it to the next level and what happens when more of the public finds out about you instead of just the local neighborhood you have to plan for that. I live in a rural community but farmland is getting sold out to nice fancy homes being built so we are getting more families and my TOT's come from the kids at school, thats how everybody knows us!
Also I'll be honest I was not well this last year & my ex did so much for halloween & xmas. That taking down of the halloween & starting the xmas stuff right away is rough for me. I have to start right after halloween or there is no way to be done by xmas. And really for me I like my stuff up by thanksgiving so i can enjoy it the whole month of dec. as that is when we are really busy with the candy business.
This last season we almost did not do Halloween, I slid in the tub in Sept. hurt myself bad, Oct. had to be out of town the 1st week as Hubby had major major back surgery.
So at the last minute we decided to do Halloween & were like crazy people getting it all up. Then it came right down and it was time to start Xmas. Jeez guys I was like a zombie. I guess the hardest part of this last season, both xmas & halloween was the thought settling in that maybe one day I won't be able to do this anymore. Its funny how older people tell us that their whole life ......( that one day you won't be able to do it all)& we never ever comprehend it till we get this age. For me things are starting early at 50. But I love my decorations very much they are such a part of the happiness & memories in my life...it will be a rough doing to part with them. I hope they find their way to loving homes!

Well I start day shift in the morning. Kinda weird, right now I feel like I should be getting ready for work tonight. It's going to be a real culture shock for me. Been on nights from around 94 till last week. I spent the weekend trying to sleep at night. I'd go to bed around 10 and be up by 3 AM. LOL Yep, that's when I ate lunch. I've only slept 5 to 6 hours a day for the last 14 years. But it was nice staying up all day. Well trying to anyway. Fell asleep somewhere around 5 and woke up at 8 to my alarm clock going off in the other room. LOL It was really cool to be able to be outside for most of the week end and not be going to bed around 2 in the afternoon. Think I'm going to like this.

Putrid, good luck of first shift, once you get used to it I think you will like it. Muff, I totally get where you are coming from. I am over 50, and have RA , and while I am doing pretty good now, age is starting to show up in the aches and pains after a day at woek, I do a pretty physical job, and can feel it, and am itied at the end of the day. I woiek with 20 and 30 years old and they look at me like I am nuts when I act tied ( Mesican thing a lazy american) but some day they will realize it for them selves, . I hope I can still do both my halloween and christmas for a long time. It would be sad not too. I guess as long as I have the props, and christmas lights, etc, maybe i can jhave some one help. But that days not here yet, am going to go down fighting!!!

Hang in there, ladies....there will always be young kids willing to do things for a few bucks. Heck, when I was younger I'd climb on your roof just for the heck of it!
Good luck today, Putrid! Welcome to the day! Maybe you'll be able to grab a few more hours of sleep now, too.
I did some training walks this weekend. I think I underestimated how hard this was going to be. I mean, I knew it would be hard to walk 60 miles in 3 days, but I thought I'd be able to at least finish it all. Now I'm not so sure. I did 5 miles on Sat and 4 yesterday, and my left hip/thigh joint is killing me. I thought it would be my knees that gave me problems (old high school injury) but turns out it's this. Hopefully it will get stronger as I train, otherwise I might be one of the walkers that needs the van to get back to camp. But from what I hear, that's not so bad -- fun in fact -- and you get a special pin if you use it, so I suppose I'll be okay either way.

Very good advice there in that 1st line Mr. Putrid. I worked nights for awhile sometime ago & I hated it. I never got enough sleep no matter how hard I tried. I hated coming home at 3am & the whole house was asleep. I think you will like days!
I feel for you Bethene....its darn miserable to hurt everyday. I was a person that went 100 mph everyday & now I'm lucky to move at 20 mph.. I know my candy business is suffering because of these health issues. I made my mind up I'm not gonna give in this soon & I may have stumbled onto a sugery that will help. We are in the process of talking to someone that may be able to fix me! Keep your fingers crossed! They will be calling us back today........I just stumbled on to this Friday.
Yes Mummy you are right.....last halloween lots of the older kids from 2 roads over said they would love to come help us decorate. And my neighbors little guy is 9. He spends more time working on Halloween stuff w/ Jerry than he spends w/ his Dad!lol That little guy worked on so many of our projects for this last halloween, even brought his little buddies over to help paint tombstones. Funny thing is how talented he is with putting stuff together, he helped build the pilliars for the cemetery, and he helped Jerry w/ the coffin from the contest. Next week he is coming to help me repaint the tombstones & start getting epitaphs on them. He's a very withdrawn little guy & we have seen such a change in him since he has been working at our place. This last year when his Grandma died he ran out of her house when everybody tried to stop him and came here to be with Jerry. It was touching to see that. So he will be my guy as he gets older. Thing is my friends, ya just cannot believe how much help he really is. I mean those little legs & feet of his have saved us many a trips to the garage!!lol
Not easy Mummy getting back into shape when ya have not done things in awhile......trust me I know....Doc says MUF ya have to walk everyday for at least 30 minutes....I say>>>>Ok, but can we wait till I conquer getting to the bathroom 1st!!lol

Well my first week back on days and I'm still employed! LOL I have come to some thoughts as to why this shift has always been so screwed up. For example. I had this supervisor come up to me and started complaining and yelling about not being able to get the product to our department. We only needed 10 more to finish the date and no one was FORCING the other department to get it to us. So I walked over and talked to the guy in charge of that department. Seems they'd had machine problems all day and couldn't get anything out. Now don't you think if the guy who first talked to me had taken the time to find out why things weren't right his life would have been so much easier? That's the biggest problem with management in our factory. They come to conclusions without getting any information. I call it 'one minute moron'. Instead of taking 5 minutes to find out why it's easier to take one minute and sound like a moron. I don't baby-sit well. Folks like this and me don't work well together. I usually say something that ends up getting me wrote up. ( like telling this same guy to get a piece of paper and a box of crayons and draw it out. Only my language wasn't forum friendly. LOL This statement was for a completely moronic comment he'd made a few moths ago. ) Or something to the order of asking how many years have I been on this job? (14) How many seconds did it take you to become an annoying idiot? Yep, let's see if I make it threw week two.
Your right Sickie Ickie. There are more places open in the daylight. Guess I'll have to get used to standing in line. LOL

LOL Sickie Ickie. In the past I let it bother me real bad. Guess I was taking it personally. Not anymore. Now I sit back and laugh at it. And get other folks to do the same. It make management really mad when I can get things done where they're still trying to get it started. There are times when it is personal and hard not to take that-a-way. That's when I end up sticking my foot in there mouth.

To much sun. Not sunburned yet but I do have some slight red color I know wasn't there when I got up this morning. LOL Will have to get some sun block. I think the stuff I have expired sometime around the year 2000.
Got a lot of yard work I'd like to get done over the summer. Bushes that have to be moved. The rest of the old roses cut and burned. Sprayed them with Round-up last year but some of them are still alive. It takes a bit to cut and and move 50+ 8 foot tall by 6 feet wide shrubs. Makes it harder when there covered with thorns. Still have a hand full of perenials to dig up from around them and find new homes in the yard for. Lately I've found myself enjoying being outside more than actually doing anything wile I'm out there. LOL

Hey Putrid, are ya sure we don't work for the same people? One of the owners of where I work every day finds one thing to bellyache about, even though it gets done the same way every day, and if just fine everyday, all of a sudden there is a problem with what ever, and he drives the person working there crazy, and he isn't too nice about it either, he is a real arrogant a$$hole, and treats people like they are beneath him. I try to stay away and ignore him.
It's nice you are awake more, especially with the summmer here, I've got lots of yard work to do too, but never get as much done as I would like, , but one day and one step at a time I guess.
putrid
05-25-2008, 10:19 PM
Elvira, it's a good sized yard, about 160 deep by 110. Not much of the yard left with all the stuff planted. Figured the more in the ground the less I have to mow. LOL
Bethene,Lot's of arrogance here too. But mostly one minute morons.
I don't what to leave the impression that I support anyone having a bad attitude at work. For the most part I don't. I just have a hard time dealing with folks who say things, no matter how stupid, and expect you to think they're right. I yelled at a guy for putting himself in danger. His lead threatened to right me up and send me home after I yelled at the lead for letting the guy do it. Told me something like I should have more respect for him because he's a lead. Told him I have no respect for someone who allows folks to put themselves in danger. That's when I threatened to send me home. Never went to upper management and said anything about it. Don't think it's right to get someone fired over something his lead allowed him to do. Told the kid who put himself in danger that too.
Well wouldn't of been able to get anymore yard work done after all. One big thunder storm after another came rolling threw. On the bright side everything got well watered. LOL

Stoked about the Mars landing. Bummed about the storms and don't care about the dude jumping. Don't see what he's got to prove. Your not going to fall any faster from 150.000 feet than you would from 1000 ft. Just takes longer to touch down.( came close to typing hit the ground. LOL) Once you hit terminal velocity you wont go any faster.
Going to spend most of the day working on the secret Santa thing. Get as much done as I can now. Kinda rainy, drizzly and just plain wet outside. Might even go out and play in the mud. Give the neighbors something to talk about. LOL

Supposed to rain today, but I didn't see any dark clouds yet.
I, too, thought about terminal velocity. Seems scientists are interested in this because during the 20 minute fall he will break the sound barrier reaching speeds in excess of 700 mph, and change atmospheres, and temps starting at -90 deg F. Basically they want to see what happens to him LOL They tried talking him out of it, and he refused, so they're watching. He tried to do it in France, but they wouldn't let him, so he's here in the US
putrid
05-27-2008, 02:37 PM
I might be wrong ( it happens, I've learned to deal with it by using denial. LOL) but isn't terminal velocity around 60 MPH? The only factor that would give him more speed is how fast the aircraft is traveling. I would think that friction would slow him down quite a bit. Kinda hope he'll jump over a farm field somewhere. They could use the extra fertilizer. LOL

Oh, that is sad, but really funny. I'm in that kinda mood today -- it's a "let's laught at stupid people" kind of day. Hormones, I guess. I'm normally not that mean.
Speaking of rain...I guess it had made the creeks around here pretty big. I went for my first 6 mile training walk Monday, and had to cross over a 30 foot wide creek unexpectedly. The map said it had a "rock and wire" bridge, but the rocks were under water, and the wire handrail was no where to be found. Except the pole in the middle of the creek that once helped hold it up, that looked like it was just waiting for me to slip and impale myself on. So, had to channel my inner 2nd grader, take off the socks and shoes, and wade through. It hurt my feet like a sob and a nearly fell about a dozen times. But I made it -- and it was kinda fun, in a way!

Nancj, As far a s prom goes, I dressed both genders, and let me tell ya, the boys ain't that much cheaper, tux's ain't cheap, and of course, gotta match the girls dress, and can't do basic plain ones, that's not be cool and of course gotta buy a corsage, and the dinner, and the tickets, and so on and so on. It's ALL expensive!
and at graduation, every one wears a gown, so never could understand needing something new, just to cover up?!?
Ah well, enjoy it Nancj, it's gone before ya know it!
Mummy , what a awesome thing you are doing!! good for you!

I don't think so Nancj. But he is a fashion roll model. LOL
I do have some dress shirts. Only because other folks buy them for me. LOL My biggest problem is finding a shirt that will fit my arms and shoulders. If I get one that fits there it'll hang like a tent over the rest of me. I'm not a thin and trim guy either. I'm over weight and do wear size 40's. Even those have to be relaxed fit so they'll fit over my thighs. Now if I can ever get rid of this spare tire. Be nice to loose 20 and get back down to 200 and maybe a size 36. But that still wont help with finding cloths that fit without spending a fortune. But with the long hair and a full beard I'd just end up looking like one of those cave men on the Gico commecials anyway. LOL

I know exactly what you me. I have the same problem also, not big shoulders just big boobs! (too much information, I know sorry) I have that same problem buying shirts that fit, I try to cover up as much as I can while every thing else fits like a tent. maybe we should go camping. I'll bring the s'mores!

?????Sickie Ickie??? JK LOL Nancj, I have a chest but no big boobs. LOL
It's a real bummer that more companies don't cater to us. Finding something is hard enough. What's worst is when you do find something it usually shrinks to the point of being unwearable. It would be totally cool to be able to go somewhere and buy a couple of flannel shirts and know they'll fit after 4 washes.

I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE. I AM TOTALLY OFFENDED BY YOU (THE FORMUMS) CRUDE SENSE OF HUMOR AND RUDENESS. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE.

And it's good to know that anyone can chime right in. I don't think anyone here takes themselves so seriously that a new member could offend them easily. You've got to have it to dish it out. In order to have it you have to take it. If you can take it you've got it to give.
I don't have a sense of humor. I've been totally serious from the start. JK LOL

Oh one more thing I wanted to mention......as many of you that live in the Chicago area.....we really should try to get together when I come home.....I'm not sure when this trip will be. I know I won't be home for the candy show this year cause I got to much other stuff going on. I was gonna try & come in the fall but its so hard because thats when the candy business really picks up & in Sept. I'm always starting to get my Halloween stuff up in the house. Needless to say I'm gonna fit a trip in there somewhere.
When I come home I'm always gonna stay a week & the last time I came home my Aunt got sick & went in the hospital & I was there for 3 weeks. I know I'm gonna have to plan a trip soon as she is not really well. I'm worried sick cause the whole family (except me) is going on a cruise this month & I worry about her being out on a boat with how unpredictable her health is. My Hubby is a Coast Guard Flotilla member & he says if anything serious happens to her the Coast Guard will go out & get her......but jeez this cruise goes to the Bahamas & Haiti.
Anyways.....my Dear Chi-town friends ......wouldn't it be a blast if we all got together and went to Gym Whourlfields haunted house. His haunt is open year round but he told me just call & let him know when I was gonna come down there. Wouldn't it be fun for all of us spending a day together? Just something to think about! Even if we just went & ate Hot Dogs!!! Sound familiar Nanc?
That last comment there is a joke.......what does a Chicagoan miss the most when they move out of state>>>hot dogs or white castles? I told Nancj when I come home we should get together & go eat hot dogs!!!lol
SO kids just something to throw around....it would be so nice to meet everybody in person! ANd we could take pictures to post here!!

Muffy ever since you mentioned hot dogs I've eaten them nearly everyday, please don't start talking about Chicago style deep dish pizza, I'm trying to lose weight here!
It would totally be a blast if we could get a group of people to hang out in Chicago, where is Gym Whourlfields haunted house? I don't think I've ever heard of it.
Sickie CONGRTULATIONS to you and the Mrs. thats it!! I'm definatley staying away from the water, I just found out that two of my neighbors are pregnant also.
Elvira don't be jealous, you know how it goes, if your tall you want to be short if you have straight hair you want it to be curly and in some cases if your boobacious (just made that one up) you want to be boobless.

My Goodness, how one mistake can shake us all up!!lol Especially when it involves a pregant lady!!lol
AAhhhh I love deep dish but for me....my next favorite is the Italian Beef/Sausage combo at Al's on Taylor street!! After that Maxwell street Polish Sausage!!! My favorites!! And speaking of gyros.....you guys would die....down here they only put on 4 little slivers of meat... ya can't even find it under the sauce & other stuff, nothing compared to the ones at home where ya eat the meat off that sucker for 5 minutes before you even try to pick it up & eat it!lol
Gym Whoulfields......he's on our halloween board....I'll try & find his link. He has been on TV in Chicago for his haunted house, its very well known. Oh & I got a message from Tallula about whats in the favor bags.....I gotta copy it from over on the Halloween forum & I'll stick it on that favor thread in here.

Everybody said to just give them a holler when we are ready.....so we gotta have a gameplan.....what we want to start building and what we will need to bring along to build our project. I really kinda thought we should all get together and meet first & then try to set up an agenda and hear everybodies ideas and visit a little.
I think when we get together at the 1st meeting we should maybe come prepared with some ideas as to what we can offer to the group in the way of leading them thru building a project from start to finish. Need to figure out what we want to build. If there are projects we want to take on that no one in the group has a clue how to build we can always ask for help off the board.
I have not spoke to Spookzilla in awhile ...he had some personal things going out so he has been away from the board. But Trioxon, Dave in the Grave, & Scarisburg all have stayed in touch. SO yes....I think we can get it together when ya get here. Want me to start sending out feelers yet?
Muffy
PS......I might even be interested in driving up to Virginia to join in their group.....not to far a drive for us. I sure hope we can do a group tho ...it would be great fun!! Not sure if you knew this ...but Dave was the other competitor in the coffin contest with the window in his coffin.......thats our boy from Concord!(20 miles south of me)

Good to hear it didn't just get dropped. But as many times as we've pushed back our move date, don't wait for us to start the party! I'll join in when and where I can. Hopefully it will be sooner than later.
The Virginia group sounds like a fun bunch, maybe when things get rolling we could have some events together.
Yes, I saw that Dave was a neighbor, his entry was also very well done and quite unique.
Haven't been back there for a month now, getting homesick...
