My Mom had always bought my sister and me a new ornament every year growing up and would mark the year on the bottom. We got to choose, and she does it to this day. I am now 36 and have 36 (soon to be 37) cool ornaments of my choosing - my wife and I do the same for each other now that we are married.
Anyone else do anything similar?
Also, what are some of your favorite or most cherished ornaments?

My parents did that for us also. We havent thought about buying a new ornament in a few years. Maybe we buy some more this year. Usually family sends a ornament or two every year so.....
And a favorite one is all of them they all mean somthing.

My wife and I love to travel. Where ever we go, we find something that can be hung on the "travel" tree. Sometimes it's an actual ornament or sometimes just a key chain with the name of the place on it.
The most fun is unpacking them each year and remembering the places where we got them.

My husband and I have been buying a ornament for every year with our kids. But Our parents didn't do that with us.
It will be nice for them to have when they start out thier own family's.

I have also been buying ornaments for the kids. First Christmas, favorite characters and so on. In the last 5 or 6 years we have also been doing theme trees. For a few years it was the boys favorite colors, candy ornaments, and last year it was stars and snowflakes. Each of them has an ornament box that I add to so when they are out on their own they will have enough ornaments to fill a tree. My most cherished ornaments are ones that my Nana made and ones from my Mother's trees when she was growing up. Each of the boys will inherit these as well.

That is a good idea, we always get some sort of small trinket from our travels.

I try to buy a few special ornaments every year. Gosh I have so many special ones...its hard to say which ones are the favorites. Three years ago my Aunt & I
bought all these rodeo ornaments and little western trinkets & Santa ridin a bull, they really make a nice tree. My old inherited family heirloom ornaments are very beautiful. I think about how many Xmas's they been thru.
Ya know what......I'm gonna work on this one this year....so I'll get back to ya! lol

My grandpearents do that for all of us grandkids. My grandma use to make them but over the past couple of years she's bought them from stores.

Whenever we go on vacation or on a family "outing", we look for Christmas ornaments to buy.
It started when Mr. W, I mean Mr. P, and I went on a trip to Italy back in '95 - we were in the area where Pinocchio is inspired. There was a children's theme park called "Pinocchio World" that I really wanted to go to, but Mr. P refused! LOL (This is before we were married, so there were no kids! )
Anyway, there were tons of shops that sold every type of Pinocchio object imagineable. We bought two ornaments for the tree which started our family tradition. :)

Well, we didn't buy new ornaments every year, but my mom would get the big ornament box out and put a silver hook on one. Then each kid in turn would put up an ornament (my dad included) until teh tree was filled. If we didn't do it one by one, mom would pout because it would be done so quickly! LOL

I think the yearly ornament is such a sweet tradition.
In addition to giving a yearly ornament, my DH and I save a slice (about 1" thick) from the bottom of that year's Xmas tree and use it as an ornament. We note the year on it with a Sharpie and seal it.

Hubby and I do that too. We buy one ornament every year. With the baby coming, I guess we can start that tradition for him too!
The other thing we do is buy those goofy tiny snowman ornaments with our names printed on them. My hubby always insists on hanging his snowman and my snowman on the same tree branch together. He's kinda sappy sometimes! Guess we'll have to buy three next year!

I collect hallmark ornaments. I have a tree full of them. My mil gets my husband & I one with our names & the year engraved every year. The ones I cherish most are those people have given me & last year my mom gave me the ones that I made in school. They all have special meaning to me.
