Well fokes after 10 years of buying stuff after Christmas all my out door Christmas decorations got ruined. My husband and I went to get the Christmas decorations out the shed Thanksgiving day, and we were shocked to see rats coming out of every box we touched. We were infested. As we got the boxes out of the shed we realized they were a total loss. I even had to go buy a new Christmas tree. So as of now I have just a tree up and that's it, no yard decorations out at all :( It has taking a lot for me to get in the Christmas spirit, because my favorite part of Christmas is decorating for others to enjoy. I will be at Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart the day after Christmas to try to restore some of my Christmas decor.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Perhaps you could think of this as the start of creating an entirely new display for refreshingly new direction? I know that still isn't great, but gotta tray to think of a silver lining, no?

Oh Dinky, what a terrible thing to hear. I know you must have been heartbroken. And it is hard to say which is worse...the loss of funds paid out for decorations that are now rat food, or the fact that you spent 10 years building a nice display and now have to start over. I am with Sickie though. Try to think of it as a chance to start a fresh new display and WOW everyone next year. Good luck. I hope you find lots of treasures on sale.

Bummer about your display. I'd find out what attracted then and then stay away from it. Then put a big box in there and fill it with Decon. That way when they do come back they'll have plenty of it to eat. Looking forward to your triumphant, new and better than ever display for next year!

I'm so sorry to hear that all of your decorations got ruined, Dinky. I hope you will be able to replace enough items to have a nice display next year! Eventually you'll be able to build your display up to what you had before.

Good advice, Putrid!

We use to store the chicken feed in the shed, so I am assuming that's what attracted them. We also found snakes in boxes, I guess they were after the rats. In the spring we had some one cut the grass in the back field for hay and I am guessing they ran for shelter in my shed. We have since cleaned out and threw a bunch of stuff away and we now keep poison in there...I check it every week to make sure it's still full :) I am thinking of just doing wood cut out's and investing in a bunch of lights. There's a bunch of DIY's on here I will be working on for next year. I will triumph and come back better than ever next year...I have a year to work on it :) Thanks for the encouragement, I have 1 acre of land to fill next year. I will start looking on ebay and all over the place to restock my Christmas decor.

I am sorry to hear about your problem Dinky, but it sounds like you are ready to go at it another year. Very glad it didn't get you completely down..

I am sure you will have fun planning and creating all year long!

Wow, what a bummer! :(

Can't say I've ever heard of rats ruining someone's Christmas before. :-\

Ahh, that sucks! Especially when it involves items you've had for so long and have special memories.

Good to hear you are rising to make this work for the better. A good side is that now you can pick up more cost-efficient LED strings, and maybe a few items you have been holding off on getting.

Of course you realize we'll want to hear all the great stuff you picked up on after-Christmas sales. :)

Dinky, I am so sorry to hear about your Christmas decorations being ruined. I think the woodwork cutouts will be great and a really fun project to do throughout the year. Warrant makes a good point about now being able to get newer cost efficient light strings. Many of the stores here already have deep discounts on Christmas decorations. Your display will be better than ever next year!

Thanks everyone, next year will be great. My aunt bought me a new pin-less scroll saw as my Christmas present. My creative mind is in over load. =)
