Does anyone else venture out on the Friday after Thanksgiving? My wife usually does along with her sister and grandmother. Thankfully I am able to politely excuse myself from the insanity and remain at home. :)

Not me...I hate shopping as it is, let alone trying to go out on that day.
Every year you hear about people being trammpled and fights breaking out as the doors open. Not a good way to start what is suppose to be a good will Holliday.
Corporate Fat cats probly laugh about it all the way to the bank ,too!

Ugh! No way! I usually try to go to the mall at least once after Thanksgiving, just to walk around and enjoy the decorations and music. But I usually don't shop when I do that.
Most of my Christmas shopping is done online or in small locally-owned stores. No kids, so I don't have to go out to find the latest toy on sale. (Niece and nephews get gift cards and Coca-Cola stock.) I'm usually fairly calm about gift-buying because I refuse to get nutty about it. I check everyone's Amazon wishlists (and check with my Mom about siblings) or I look for stuff that someoe I love might enjoy. If nothing jumps out, I'll send a gift basket or flowers.

I would not do it before. But last year we ventured out and I cannot believe the deals that I got.

Current new release movies were $2.99, tv show series DVD sets were $16 (normally $55-$75). We bought A LOT. The crowds did suck!

I avoid shopping on that day like the plague! I might go to the mall at some point between Thanksgiving and Xmas but for the most part, I'll make gifts or get them at the smaller stores.

My neice and I went to a mall last year on black friday and it was a mess. They had a thing going where they "dropped" ballons, and some of them had prizes and gift cards inside. Sounded fun, but when we got there, the croud was huge and there was a woman standing on a ladder batting out ballons one at a time, while her co-workers handed them to her and tried to keep her from falling. It was like a mosh pit. Never again.
But might still hit the stand alone stores if I have enough coffee, no kids, and the patience of a saint that morning.

...if it were up to me, not a chance in the world.

...it's not.

I'm the "hired muscle" - we wake up at 3am, and start from there...

...

...

...did I mention I love my wife?

Not a chance in Heck! Now Hubby on the other hand has gone out, usually just to get the door prizes. I shop early or online.

In all my years I have never recalled going out to shop that day!

I do love going out to shop at Xmas with all the people trying to get their shopping done...I find it an exciting time of year. I like that Salvation Army bell ringer. Here in the south tho I do miss large snowflakes.

I went once just too see if it really is as bad as they portray it on the news. I didn't think I'd make back alive. I went out the year Wii came out, there were people literally following you to the car to see if you had one and they could by it off of you. No thanks, I think I'll do my shopping on line. espesially If I can save on shipping and taxes.

Wow. I'm about 30 miles south of Chi-town, and have gone shopping as late as Christmas Eve. Never had anybody follow me, though. I also didn't think it was as bad as the media portrayed.

We weren't in the best part of town that day. Went to five different Best Buys trying to find I cant even remember what, when we were approched by two guys asking if we had a Wii. luckily there was plenty of security around. But it was a little scary being approched from behind when your arms are full of packages.

I have never go, I think about it- at big box stores, never the mall, the deals look great, but have never made it. Walmart ,around here any way, is another place to never go, there have been huge fights just getting into the store, a lady was hurt pretty bad last year, trampled, her hubby tried to protect her when she fell, but couldn't get to her. Crazy!

Why go shopping at 4:00 am when you can just buy it on-line and get better deals?

Talked to Family In Chi-town yesterday.....they went to eat at "The Walnut Room" at Macy's Friday. Said it was crazy with people. Thats where I think Martha Stewart lit the xmas tree. The Walnut Room is a well known chicago experience...its in the old Field's building that is now Macy's. Its quite a restaurant & known for its Chicken Pot Pies!

They keep telling me>>>>>"Come Home!"

I did both Black Friday and Cyber-Monday. They are VERY different.

There are a lot more 75% off type things on Black Friday. Still some great deals on Cyber Monday.

I think it has to do with where you are. Here in Las Vegas, we have A BUNCH of each store. The Walmart I went to had NO lines at 5am. I just walked in, spent about 45 minutes in the store and then went to checkout 2 carts full of stuff and there was NO LINE up there also.
Then there was Circuit City, there was a line outside..NOPE..don't do that. Then went to Target, there was a lack of carts, but no problems.

I know in some cities things are different, but I saved big bucks on Black Friday. NONE of the items that I purchased were available online for a cheaper price.
I bought some DVDs on Cyber Monday that nobody had left on Friday...so it was good for me too.

Never been. I think it should be illegal to offer great deals, then limit the number of products available. Causes too many injuries, deaths, etc. My husband and son went to the Navy Exchange for Black Friday. It was VERY well organized and controlled to avoid people cutting in line or "rushing". Kept anyone from getting hurt or angry. I was impressed AND got a big screen tv for about 1/2 price.
What is Cyber Monday? Seems like I use to know.

Cyber Monday is an online version of Black Friday.

Sites like amazon, best buy etc has AMAZING deals. On cyber Monday only.
e.g. Last year I bought a DVD set that was usually $55 for $19.

TODAY is cyber Monday. The Monday after Thanksgiving. I looked for a few minutes on some sites. Did not buy anything. There were DVD box sets on Amazon normally $39-$59 that were $11.99 (just an example).

Sounds like a great deal... I had no idea of the existence of cyber monday until now, thanks! :)
