HELP with ribbon on my tree

I am almost done trimming the tree but I've been wrestling with the ribbons. I use them every year and every year it's the same old battle --"how did I get this to look right last year?" Does anyone have any secret tricks on hanging ribbon from the tree? If I don't figure it out soon....

I have done it two ways, but I ceratinly am not a expert, but here goes. Some years I used a bow at the top, and let ends of ribbon hang down the tree in a curly fashion, using 4 to 6 curlies depending on the tree. This year I ran it horisontally by making small bows and having the ribbon drap between the small bows. I used thin wire to attach the small bows,I put them every 2-3 feet depending on where it looked the best(on a real tree, alot depends on where good branches are) I don't know if this helps, or if I m describing it ok, but good luck!
