Time to start thinking of the gifts folks would like then go out and get them so I can sit back and enjoy putting up the Christmas display with out worrying about how much time I'm not spending putting up the display and instead going all over the place looking for things and thinking about the display and wondering if I should get them things they probably wont want anyway so they'll have something to unwrap on Christmas just to take them all back and get other things they really want wile things are on after Christmas sales. ( to much caffeine ) LOL

Very cool song Rybcon!

I have also noticed that Christmas time is slowly approaching . . . not that it's here . . . but that it's on its way. The temps are dropping. I went out today and finally felt comfortable trading in my shorts for jeans and, in fact, even regretted going out in a T-shirt and not bringing my hoodie with me. According to weather.com it's 53 degrees out there right now.

Lately I've also been cranking up the non-holiday Trans-Siberian Orchestra albums . . . which is just a pre-cursor to rocking out to the Christmas albums.

So I get it. We're getting there. The fact that I'm here and typing this is proof enough.

90 days to go! Crazy, it seems like just yesterday I was at this forum last september introducing myself for the first time. I havn't completely caught christmas fever yet. That will start once halloween is over.

I live in an apartment myself, so decorating is limited, however, I won't at all this year. I would decorate inside and maybe get a small tree, but like last year I am moving yet again. I wish i could find an apartment that wasn't hell itself :( Although, I now now what to watch out for!

By christmas I should be graduating as well. I have a job from an internship lined up until I can continue to find my dream job out there, which really puts some of the unemployment fears to rest.

Yep, everything for me is coming to a head this Christmas. It will signify the point in my life where I actually start into the real working "real life".

While that stuff is nice I suppose, I am still looking forward to having the entire family back together at our childhood home again. That's what I love most about christmas, all the other stuff is just perks. Can't wait!

Every christmas I generally get time off between xmas and new years. I wish I could pause time in that week long period. Best week of the year IMO!

Think think think....where did I put that? It's not in there. Hmmm, not in there either. Could it be in here? Nope.

I seem to be missing about 4 weeks from this year. I have apparently misplaced them so If anyone sees them please send them to me immediately. Also, my calender and clock seem to be running extremely too fast. If anyone knows of a good repairman to fix my time please let me know.

Halloween, then Turkey, then Christmas................

Do people even regard Thanksgiving as a real holiday anymore?

The extent of my celebrating Thanksgiving is getting up, watching a little bit of the Macy's parade, and being happy that I don't have to go to work. After that, it's just like a normal day.

SPX, I TRIED watching the Macy's parade last year, but I think they showed maybe 10 minutes of the parade and the rest was commercials for shows and other crap.

SPX

I'm 100% with you! The entire thing is product placement these days . . . I say "these days" but honestly I don't remember what it was like when I was a kid, maybe the same way . . . but in any case, yeah, it's a bunch of commercials, and then someone performs about half a song on the "Kraft float" or whatever . . . and then more commercials . . . and then 2 minutes of a marching band as they dance around a logo for Microsoft . . . and then commercials. . .

I can't say I overly enjoy it for what it is, but it reminds me of my childhood, and that's why I watch it. Then again, considering it's the MACY'S Thanksgiving Day Parade, is it really any surprise that the whole thing is totally commercialized?

Mr. Griswold, my old friend. . .

I find that the weather is crisp at night, but still pretty warm in the afternoon. I'm ready for some 50 degree temps even at 3 PM.

I don't think Christmas stuff should be going up until after Thanksgiving.

At this rate, I'll be burned out before December even gets here.

^Not me - no, NEVER! They could start putting up stuff in July and that would be fine with me!

I find that I have a fairly narrow window for going all out when it comes to Christmas. I have about one good month in me to be gung ho and after that I'm kind of over it for a while. I learned this a couple of years ago when I got really into it one year around the beginning of November and by Dec. 1 I was just kind of ready to do something else.

Also, I can't be in the Christmas spirit if it's not cold outside. I can't wander in from 90 degree temperatures and be in the mood to drink hot chocolate and sing Christmas carols. No Cold = No Christmas

Rybcon

After a while you just kind of accept it when you're living in SoCal. But the desire for cold weather never really goes away.

SPX
10-04-2011, 08:55 PM
That's actually one reason I am not interested in living in SoCal, despite the fact that I did enjoy my time in San Diego while I was there.

I grew up in Memphis,TN and Jackson, MS, where we didn't get nearly as much snow as I'd have liked, but we did get a decent amount of cold. It wasn't always consistent, though. We'd always have the odd season where it would be 70 degrees in the middle of December. But I'm really not sure if I'd have ever fallen in love with the Christmas season in the same way if warm weather during the Christmas season was the norm.

It's nice living in a place now where cold temps and a good blanket of snow are dependable visitors during THAT time of the year.

I was born in Chicago and lived there the first 11 years of my long life. Even now, 45 years later, I miss the cold for fall, Thanksgiving and especially Christmas. I will say though on January 2nd I'm ready for it to be in the 70s again.

SPX
10-05-2011, 10:25 AM
I agree with the latter sentiment for sure.

I wish November and December were the coldest months of the year and then there was an instant rebound in temps as soon as January hits.

Here in Salt Lake though, we sometimes keep getting snow all the way through May.

Speaking of the cold, today has been the first chilly and overcast day we've had since this fall. It's in the 40s out there right now and is supposed to get down to 43 later tonight.

I'm down with it.

Much as I love Halloween (and I DO) I am finding preparations for it getting in the way of Christmas preparations. There are MANY times I would rather be prepping for Christmas, but the kids love the way we set up for Halloween (one calls us the "vacuum cleaner house" because of my witch that rides an old Kirby side-saddle) so I just try to work at it a bit harder.

As we bring things out of storage, a lot of time we have to move something for Christmas to get to Halloween decorations. In that instance, (if I can reasonably do so) I go ahead and put up the Christmas stuff (as long as it won't interfere with Halloween, like stuff for the side fences, etc.)

Still a lot to do, but it'll all get done. I will really enjoy Halloween, but once it is over, it is ALL Christmas from there!:D:D:D

I have been too, I think I have the Christmas Eve menu set I just need some good desert ideas! I downloaded an app with Christmas stuff on it too, a countdown and music ect... Jingle Bells are coming! I think in 2 weeks the first Christmas music preview starts here. I love the 24/7 Christmas music marathons.

All Hallows is over.

The pumpkins are shriveled, the candy is gone, the candles are burned down and winter is whispering at the door.

In just a few weeks we'll celebrate the harvest with turkey and gravy, cranberries and pumpkin pie, and Ol' St. Nick will usher in the holiday in the Macys parade. Black Friday will hit with a vengence born of consumeristic fear in a down economy, carols will overtake the airwaves, holly and evergreen will hang in every window,...
And I'll be planning a Beverage bash for my closest friends, featuring gourmet hot chocolate, eggnog, lambswool and mulled wine.

Wassail, indeed.

I'm just about in full blown Christmas mode. Took down all of my Halloween decor, but it's still laying all around the house waiting to be boxed up lol. I HATE packing up decorations! Still have a couple of things to get through before I'm truly feeling the Christmas spirit (surprise birthday party for my mom next weekend and of course, Thanksgiving). What I'm really looking forward to right now is Black Friday. Call me crazy, but I LOVE getting up in the wee hours of the morning to go shopping lol. It's a rush!
