Well I am taking an egg nog break from stringing lights outside and the snow is coming down!!! This is what Christmas is about for me. I love the chilled flakes as they hit my face and melt.
Anyone else already playing in snow?

Nope...no snow in SC. It was cold enough the other night when it got down below freezing, but yesterday and today it has been in the mid 70s. A bit warm for snow I think.

If anyone besides me lives in the Northwest, a meteorologist friend of mine told me today that weather models are starting to show a good possibility of a MAJOR cold wave WITH SNOW in the Northwest starting late next week!
Snow that early here around Seattle is practically unheard of. I hope he's right, I'd LOVE to get some early snow!

I am angry that it is getting cold here, until I remind myself that it is November! So, I guess cold should be the norm.
No snow here, but it IS Vegas... I am just itching to put up my lights!

Hey Merry!:)
Last year's snow was a bit much for us. I opened one door at work and was staring into a 6 foot PLUS snow drift! (guess who got to shovel THAT?):)
We got some very minor flurries here in Salt Lake a couple of days ago, but other than that, it's been dry since I posted that pic a few weeks ago. Actually, that's not completely true . . . it RAINED hard here the other day and I HATE rain. I guess it just wasn't QUITE cold enough for snow, which was disappointing.
I agree though, snow is a huge part of the Christmas experience. Growing up way down South, I didn't see much of it growing up, so I'm soaking it all up now (sometimes literally).

merryblackfrog you bite your tongue..2 storms less than a week apart with 2ft plus of snow??? You obviously do not have the joy of having to remove all that white stuff..my job includes plowing snow...on a very long nasty driveway..and getting caretakers/nurses in and out of here ..I used to like snow ..now I stress about it a LOT

Snow is just plain fun in the South....
The first time I drove 'in snow" was that wonderful heavy flurry we had in Houston last year. I think I drove wth my head stuck out of the window yelping "Yee Haw" all the way down the highway, and I know I had my roof rack Christmas Lights switched ON.

Can someone send some snow my way? Snow at Christmas would just be the bestest ever !!! Though I've heard that it's like owning a swimming pool - you wish you had it, get it, and end up never using it. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through you all.

Having grown up in Memphis, I know the feeling. When we would get snow it was just THE best experience. It positively lit up my life because it was so rare and truly seemed like magic. All the sudden my normally hot and humid home had been transformed into a winter wonderland that I usually only saw in the movies.
I remember being a kid and just standing outside as it started to snow and looking around smiling. Just feeling the cold and seeing this white, powdery stuff fall from the sky was like a spiritual experience.

I am hoping that the snow holds off until I get everything up and running here. The bloody WIND is enough to freeze you in place a lot of times:) It doesn't have to be very cold for the wind to just go right through you.
Supposedly, our weather will be half way decent today, and if that holds true, I can (I HOPE) get the roof done!:)

Last year, there was LOTS of snow here in Arizona. In fact, I remember shoveling the driveway (during a snowstorm) as I finished, I turned around, and there was already 1 inch (or better) where I had just finished!:)

I guess I could throw our pretty pure white sand all over our yard and try to make it look like snow. I remember when I first moved here...the kids and I were driving on to the base along the coast. It was our fist glimpse of the beach and we all had to look 3 or 4 times. We could not figure out why there was snow on the beaches and dunes. It was SO white and sparkled in the sun so much that at first we really thought it was snow.

JW, Thankfully it is not all black and OILY! (the sand that is).
I am still toying with the idea of putting all of the Buffalo Snow that I bought the last few years on my lawn... but I am sure it would get all dingy and icky by Christmas...

You were not here a few years ago Edwin, when I had 8 to 10 inches of snow at my house one day.....Ok, for you snowland folks that may seem like nothing, but remember, we have NEVER had that much in the valley in years. The weight of the snow, took out half of my Palo Verde tree and froze plants all over the yards. It looked great, but was a mess to clean up. Driving in it was another whole story..........:deer:

I can believe it, Fred!
A winter storm in an area that normally does not have them and is ill-equiped for them (with good reason, obviously) IS a mess to deal with. Heck, it can be a mess in areas that ARE equiped for them (I remember ice storms in Seattle.....NOT nice!)

Snowing right now and I got a couple inches of snowfall on the ground through the night. I am so glad the display is wired because it just looks really cold now out there :) The temps are to drop into single digits today.
We got dumped on night before last and the temps took a nosedive. According to the forecast we're supposed to get snow today, tomorrow, and Wednesday (with a high on Wednesday of 17).
It's about time the holiday weather got here. It's almost December!

I like how new fallen snow sparkles, but hate how it turns dirty and slushy in so little time in the city.
Looks like a lot of snow SPX nice!
Yeah, I had no idea it was even supposed to snow today. I woke up and opened the door and, well . . . there it was.
Apparently it's been coming down for about 5 hours now and it's still going strong.
I like how new fallen snow sparkles, but hate how it turns dirty and slushy in so little time in the city.
That's true, at least around the streets. Guess you gotta enjoy it while it lasts.
It actually brings to mind a memory. I went to a movie last year--a later show--and I was by myself. When I walked out there was snow everywhere. Apparently it had started snowing when I was in there and I had no idea. So I'm walking home around midnight through the streets of downtown, and the snow in the street was literally untouched. Apparently not a single car had driven through there. (Downtown Salt Lake is pretty quiet at night.)
So there I was in the middle of the city, with the snow illuminated by the street lamps, and I was all by myself in this untouched snow world. It looked like some alien landscape and I felt like I was in some fantasy world straight out of a children's book. I was so overtaken with the experience and felt like I really was so isolated that I just started walking down the middle of the street, not feeling like the rules of society pertained to me anymore because I wasn't in the regular world . . . I was off, somewhere else, in a city that had been abandoned by people and now sat alone in pristine condition.
I'll never forget it. It was magic.

If you are as good a film maker as you are a writer SPX, I'd be very interested in watching some of your films.
If you are as good a film maker as you are a writer SPX, I'd be very interested in watching some of your films.
You just paid me a big compliment!
I know I've mentioned my interest in filmmaking before, but it's something that I'm not actively involved in (yet). I've made a few attempts but they were . . . not that good. When I finally transfer to the University of Utah I intend to really focus on film production classes.
For now, I'm actually studying for a communications degree at Salt Lake Community College, with an emphasis on journalism. I actively freelance on the side and have been published in a couple of different national magazines (one of which I write for regularly).
So a big focus of my life right now is writing. In fact, I'm trying to figure out how to transition completely away from my part-time day job as a computer tech and make my living exclusively by freelancing. That's proving easier said than done, though.
But yes, I suppose the writer in me sometimes takes over, even when I'm making informal posts on a message board.
Soon though, filmmaking should also be a reality for me. I actually have some ideas for some Christmas-related stories that I'd like to do. Hopefully that's something that I can make happen somewhere down the road.
