I took some pics as I built this piece today. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what it is?:)

It is a mounting piece for something? Part of your train? Oh, maybe it is a mount for crossed flags. Hmmmm. hard to say.

And painted black.
Yah, I have no idea...

Lol Fred....
Is it for the train?

I need to build a total of ten of the things to hang the candy canes along the side fence (this will be MUCH easier than how I did it last year)
Also thought of this: it would make setting up a skull and cross-bones for halloween pretty easy too. Hmmmmmmm....idea:

I would have used zip ties, but this is much easier in the long run!
Very nice Craig! :D

Got home this evening... (another headache brewing) managed to finish construction of the candy cane holders, got most of them painted. Ran out of flat black. RATS! Will bring home more tomorrow and finish this project up so I have one LESS project to deal with.
Like all deckers, if I didn't LOVE doing this so much, I would think I was stark raving MAD for all the work (but I DO love it!):p

It's a great idea Craig. I also use zip ties edwin. I am too lazy to build a nice set of holders. Plus then I have to figure out how to attach them to something. I would probably use zip ties to attach the holders. LOL

Ok everyone,
Today I got all of the candy cane holders up and installed the candy canes. Here is a pic of how they look (all ready to go and everything):)
I must say I am pretty happy with them! The pic below shows the east side of the fence (you can see the candy canes from the street 2 blocks over, across a field) Notice the LOVELY drainage ditch the city so thoughtfull put in to keep us from getting flooded?:)
I had another idea today (already built, just waiting for the paint to dry) will be posting pic(s) tomorrow so get your thinking caps on for another round of (what the heck IS it?):):):)

Wow Craig, those look great! I really love that. I have a question....it is not a criticism just a curiosity. Why did you paint the mounts black instead of brown like the fence? I can't wait to see them all lit up. I am getting excited for christmas now. I want to see lots of lights.
And your drainage ditch is a lot nicer than ours. The city dug a huge trench in everyone's' front yard about 3 feet from the road, and about 4 feet deep. We lucked out, the house next door was the last one they put one in.

Hey JW!:)
Thanks for the kind words.
As for why I painted them black instead of the color of the fence... Welllllll..... I suppose it is just the theatrical background coming to the fore in me. Ya want something to disappear on stage, ya paint it flat black (right Sickie?):):):)

Ok Everyone!:)
The paint dried quicker than I thought it would, so here is the next round.
Take a look at the pic below and tell me what the heck it is.......:):):)

Lollipop holders? Wait, you don't do lollipops. Hmmmmm, something obviously sits in the little hole and they mount to a fence or wall. I can't think of anything you have that fits the bill.

An eyebolt goes in the hole and you stand them up the other direction and string sidewalk lights through them. Flamingo holders?

Thank you, halfawake!:)
The closest guest prize goes to JW for her VERY good idea about it being "something that hangs on a fence or wall to hold lollipops? "Oh wait, you don't DO lollipops!"
JW, how in the HELL did you remember THAT?:):):)

Oh Wait....I wanna guess again. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that maybe, just maybe, it is something like a little tree holder. Just a thought but I might be really out there.
Craig...I don't know...it just came to me about the lollipops. Must have been stuck in my brain somewhere. LOL

These are pieces of 1x4 cut to 5 1/2" long, and painted black (they have not been assembled yet, that will come in the next day or two).
So, what the heck IS it?:)
And yes Sickie, black hides EVERYTHING!

They are either foldable roofs for birdhouses, or songbooks for carolers to hold.
