its up to you but for me its way way to early,i once put them up in the middle of november and people thought that was to early, now its always the end of november and that perfects for me,in the uk that is the norm to have them up around 1 of dec,i know alot of our american friends start early nonember time but because there have thanksgiving that might have something to do with it.

just to add the beginning of september would mean your decorations would stayup for around 4 months,i know how great decorations are but by christmas time you would have got bored by them,i have mine up for around 4 weeks and thats just right for me.

Jayden28 I start with the lights the decorations go up during November. Wrapping the roof and the house take a lot of time.

ive just seen your photos of your house, amazing to say the least,i can see why you have to start early:),here in the uk you wont see anything like that because people prefer decorating inside more than the outside,we havent got large houses here amd our yards are small compared to yours,i think the original post was thinking about putting everything up and displaying it in septeber i think.

At our home, we begin decorating for Halloween late September/early October (outside)
INSIDE, we never decorate for Halloween, because Mark begins putting up Christmas in October while I do Halloween outside. The REASON he starts so early, is because he decorates EVERYTHING (last year we had 9 trees in the house and it is only 1,300 square feet!)
November 1, all Halloween comes down and Christmas starts going up. Granted, SOME of the Christmas stuff is already up by then (around the back yard and fence) but the bulk of Christmas goes up beginning November 1.
All THAT said, we think of Christmas year round. What would look best, HOW to display it, what needs to be built, etc. I never get tired of Christmas itself. The decorations being up? Well, I am ready for them to come down after New Year's day.:)

idea:Craig I think I will take Mark's advise on decorating the inside starting in October, so it gets done this year lol:). I am so busy with the outside and never get enough time to finish the inside.

Nov 1 is really start time for me, altough, last year we had great weather end of Oct and I threw lights up. Nothing like cut outs. The lights you really can't see from the street. Take me a good 4 weeks to set up (do all myself, no helpers) - light up is 12/1. There is a good amount of time running wires and making ext cords since things move around. 8 controllers this year also.

I also believe Sept is too early to actually set up lights and decor outside and turn it on. I can see starting your planning and putting up lights that cannot be seen. I will start putting up my lights as soon as I get Halloween down and put away. It takes me a while to get my lights up also (nothing like Dano's), I am just slow. If I have them up I will turn them on Thanksgiving day and turn them off the day after new years. That is enough for me or I will get tired of them. Well, maybe one more week would be okay. :)

I suggest you count backwards from light up time, less the duration of time to set-up the display, allow another week of time (bad weather, etc.) = start of set-up. That way the display isn't up any longer than necessary.

I think you will be the only one in your neighbourhood. A attraction. But maybe you get bored of them when you have your decoration out for so long ? For me, the right time is mid November.

I always start the last week in november so I can have them all up by around December 3 or 4th. It may take me longer, but I will start turning them on anyways and add more the next day. As for September, I think that is too early. I start putting my halloween stuff up October 1st. There is only one person around here that decorates that early, and he also leaves it all up till late may. Many of his neighbours have complained.(one even moved away:() So I say If its not very visible, put it up early to get it out of the way, but wait till late November for the visible stuff....

I'm in Halloween mode also. That's really my BIG holiday.
I never start any Christmas decorating until Thanksgiving Day or the day after that.

Hey Jayden!
Halloween is HUGE over here! (We love the fun and thrills) Halloween is second only to Christmas for me. We decorate almost as much for Halloween as Christmas (a big amount of effort in a short time, but well worth it)
The pleasure of all the kids, and the gratitude of the parents (for giving their kids a bit of fun) makes it all worth it!
HOORAY FOR HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):)

I agree Craig,
Halloween is a great chance to let loose and be someone else. And for us haunters it is a chance to show off our talents, hobby, craft or whatever you want to call it. We work really hard to make it an extra special night for the kids and adults both. I do the same for Christmas, but it gets to stay outside longer and the kids don't really get to interact with the decor as much as they do at Halloween.

I live in Los Angeles, and I always wait for KOST to start playing Christmas music before I put up my decorations. (The Friday before Thanksgiving at 9 am. Not that I'm waiting for it or anything :) ) However, I totally support your September 1st date! Why not? As they say, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year!

Yea, I agree, halloween is just a normal day to us. Nothin' goes on apart from a few TV ads. It's a shame, sounds good across the pond. :l

Sorry to hear that you don't have as much fun as we do with Halloween.
Now I LOVE Thanksgiving Day, (it is between Halloween and Christmas) but in all honesty, to me, compared to Halloween and Christmas, Thanksgiving Day is just a wide spot in the road.:):):)

I used to decorate big for Halloween, but we get very few kids here. We live at the top of street that inclines (not really a hill, well maybe) and the yards are far apart. We all have at least an acre. The kids today are too lazy to walk!!! With that said, I finally decided to give up the ghost so to speak and only put out some lights and a couple of cut outs. Effort for nothing.

I guess that's the closest thing you have to our Halloween.

yep, we normally call it bonfire night and its mad, skys are lit up all night with all the fireworks, luckly for me i celebrate fireworks twice, one for bonfire night and because my religion is sikhsm we celebrate diwali which is a celebration of light so we get to have 2 days of fireworks pretty close to one another.
