I haven't been on vacation in years. I liked Bronners in Mich and MGM in Florida.

I have been on the longest vacation of my life. Almost 11 years. People ask our family why we never go anywhere for vacation. Our answer? We already live where thousands of people go to vacation every year. I live in Pensacola FL, with gorgeous white beaches and mild winters (except this year). We have lots of festivals and activities.
I did go to Sea World once in San Diego and enjoyed that a lot. As far as amusement parks go my favorite is Bush Gardens. We had season passes when we lived in VA, about 25 min from the park. I never got tired of going. I suppose I might have enjoyed Disney, but I really hate big crowds and long lines. Maybe some day.
I am not big on "vacationing", but I am looking forward to seeing what you guys liked. Maybe I will give it a try. Great idea for a thread Alan. I like this. I gave it a five star rating. :)

What I liked best about the MGM park was the ride that went through the history of MGM with animatronic figures.
I am fascinated by animatronics. Always have been. Some day I hope to do some myslef i my own limited way.

Vegas Baby! LOL
I rarely go on vacation. I only use vacation time when I have to go back home to Minnesota (or move). To me vacation hours are like GOLD for some reason, I would rather have them then spend them.... I do take a day or 2 of vacation when someone spends their vacation time to visit me tho.
I have really been thinking lately about going to Detroit. I like to look at cool old decrepit buildings and I know they have plenty! (sorry to anyone that lives near Detroit...)
I get out to San Diego a few times a year, but mostly work it out so that it is a short trip and I don't have to take any vacation time. Never been to Sea World, not really interested in that. I do love going to Disneyland, if you go during the school year on a Wednesday the lines aren't so long. When I lived in California I had a season pass for a couple of years. Definitely got my moneys worth!
Agreed! Great thread!

I haven't had a real vacation in about 8 years. Funny this thread is here because something wonderful recently happened.
My husband and I celebrate our 25th Anniversary this Tuesday. We had talked about taking a second honeymoon, etc. But being the practical sort that I am, I suggested we spend the money on updating our family room. That is the room we spend 90% of our time in. So we bought a new flat screen tv, upgraded our old theater system, blue ray..the whole nine yards. Also painting the ceiling and getting a few new pieces of furniture. That was it and we were happy with our decision..I'm painting the ceiling now.
Last Monday, my boss called me. Asked me "When is your anniversary? It's your 25th, right?" I said yes and gave him the date. With that he said "Carrie, I'm sending you and your husband on vacation to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, all expenses paid including direct flight air from Chicago to Cancun. 7 days, 6 nights. You'll be staying at the Iberostar Grand Paraseo resort with an ocean front suite."
Long story short, I was and am completely stunned by this. Can't believe it, but our reservations are in place and we're going!

OMG!!! Carrie!! first off, congrats on the anniversary- and second, where can I find a boss like that?? that is so awesome!! have a great /safe trip!!, and when you get back, enjoy the family room!!
well, I am boring, I haven't been on many long vacations, mostly stick close to home. I love anything on Lake Michigan, and with nature, have been to Canada out in the boonies, and up north in northern Michigan and the UP of Michigan which is a world onto it's own, even a different smell to the air(could it be clean air? hmmm )very beautiful, with quaint small towns, have enjoyed alot of those types of vacations my whole life.

Carrie, that is so amazing. My boss didn't even give us Christmas bonuses. Congrats on the anniversary. I hope you guys have a terrific time. Of course we will be expecting pics when you get back.
My husband and I went to Freeport in the Bahamas. What a waste of time and money. It was just a tiny Florida. All we really got to see was the touristy stuff, what a drag. If you go to the bahamas go to Nassau, Not Freeport. It is built up more and more to do and see.

That is awesome Carrie!
One of my sisters won an all expense paid vacation through her job once to some really nice place. Unfortunately they considered it "income" and it really messed with her taxes at the end of the year. She still had a blast tho! :D

Absolutely congrats Carrie.:)
Last real vacation I had was years ago, and it was a month in Italy. The architecture is amazing the food is to die for, the wine is nectar, and the museums and art...... (well, let's just say I wanna do it AGAIN!)

Carrie, congrats on the anniversity.
Oh and where do I send my resume, I want a boss like that :)
Hawaii, was the best. Maui in particular. Just as stunning as the postcards make it out to be. Laid back, slower pace, did I mention how beautiful it is. Magnificiant beaches, mountains (volcanos), deep valleys, lush rain forests and of course coconut bikini's.
But for shear adventure and amazement, it has to be Alaska and Denali National Park. The size is beyond belief. Mt. McKinley is spectacular. Wildlife amazing. Glaciers, really really cool.

My favorite vacation destination (outside the U.S.) would be any of the islands in the Carribean. Preferably the Virgin Islands (St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. Johns) or Jamaica. We honeymooned in St. Thomas back in 1992 and loved it. Took a vacation to one of the "Couples" resorts in Jamaica about 8 years ago and loved it there too.
In the continental U.S. my favorite destination would be Orlando. Even though I grew up in Florida I still love the amusement parks, especially Universal Studios and Disny/MGM. At Universal we like to stay on site at the Royal Pacific Resort, then you get the head-of-the-line pass that gets you on the rides a lot quicker. I also highly recommend the "Emeril's" restaurant at Universal CityWalk. YUM!
My second favorite U.S. destination would be Las Vegas.

I lived in England for 2 yrs. Lived in Ipswich, Leiston and Woodbridge. Visited London and had a blast doing all the typical tourist things: Saw the Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace where we watched the changing of the guards, Trafalgar Square, Mdm Tussaud's Wax Museum, and lots of other great stuff. We toured the countryside and visited castles in Framlingham and Belvoir. I have taken a bike trip down to Felixstowe for the weekend where we went to the beach, enjoyed the boardwalk and stayed in a cute little B&B. My butt was sore for a week after that bike ride. LOL
While I was in England we also took the ferry over to Zeebrugge Belgium. That was great fun but I was 4 mo pregnant and didn't enjoy the ferry as much as I could have. We saw lots of quaint little shops and poked around town all day. It wa exciting for us to eat at McDonald's. LOL Isn't it funny? You go half way around the world and get excited over a McDonald's. Well, mostly we were curious if it was the same as ours. While in England we would sometimes drive 2 hours from Woodbridge to London to eat at McDonald's. They eventually built a KFC and McD's in our area. There are a lot of great things to do in England. If you are looking for great new cuisine, stick with Italy. LOL (no offense Alan).

I'm not allowed out of NJ. Damn ankle braclet....
We don't travel much either. I have a boat so we send most of the summer at the marina, typically Thurs thru Sunday. I have a great set up there complete with Direct TV, DSL line, A/C. Even though it's only a few minutes from home, fells like a it's another world. We constructed what's been called 'Shanty Town". It's a garage tent and tables, some carpet to cover the parking lot stones, Chirstmas lights for lighting and a couple fo grills. There are about 10 boats on that dock and we all chip in. Truth be told, I garbage picked most of the items.... HA!

How do you get DSL on a boat? Doesn't that require a cable?
