One prop that I'd love to make, but will more than likely not, is a "kicker" prop in a Santa suit...
I want Santa hanging by his jolly neck from a line of Christmas lights from my second story overhang...
The thought is:
Fairly routine kicking leg prop for the legs.
Upper body just a stuffed Santa suit with something strong enough to suspend the kicking mechanism below.
Wig head - painted flesh color w/ a couple of eyes - Santa beard and moustache and cap.
The "hands" would just be secured at the "neck" - to make it appear as if hapless old Saint Nic is struggling to pull the ever tightening power cord of the electric lights away from his throat.
Placement is simple - at the junction of two strings of lights...just plug the kicker motor in between...
Viola!! Santa hanging from a string of lights...
...and you can see why I'm loathe to put it up...I somehow don't think too many people in my area would find it funny...

If you did that, Joe.....why not have him hanging by his ankle and have the free leg kicking, making it look like he slipped off the roof and was entangled in your light strand...People should find more humor in that!

Perhaps put an elf standing under him trying to catch him.

Ooohhh...good ideas!
I like the twist to my idea...making it a little less twisted, but still not your typical Christmas fare...
Thanks folks! I may end up doing that now...time to start some prep work...

I love your idea. I stole a similiar idea from a woman that lived in my town in Nebraska. She put up an extension ladder and had a prop of a lifesize Santa. During Dec. her Santa would crawl up the ladder to the roof. It was such fun to drive by there and watch him go up that ladder.
So last year we got out one of them Santa outfits my waitors wore & I found some plastic santa head that we stapled to a halloween pumpkin bucket, one the kids use for TOT'ing. I added a wig & gloves and boots and we had him.
One problem....the plan was to set the extension ladder up so we could pull the rope and he would just go up. Did not work out, the ladder was just to heavy for even 2 of us to handle, but still he was wired to the ladder and we had a flood light on him. Its a good idea you have...can't wait to see how it comes together!

Bernie, our bucky, sits in a rocking chair all year in the living room. He gets a hat change for each holiday.

Tomorrow I'm starting to build a fake chimney with two kicking legs sticking out if the top. The legs will have red velvet pants and black boots with with fur fringe. Hmmm. Wonder who that could be.

My kids have been trying to get me to put Halloween stuff in the yard for Christmas for years. I know my Homeowners assn would have a cow. But I love the hanging santa idea. Hilarious stuff. I liked the news story about the women who had a stuffed dummy (looked like a real husband) hanging by his leg from the roof, tangled in lights at the ankle, with a ladder on the ground. She finally had to take it down because 911 was getting so many calls about a mishap. It was so cool looking.

Great idea! I made one about 3 years ago (used my bottomless pit from Halloween and painted it red). It looked totally cool while it worked. Unfortunately, my motor did not have enough torque and burned out after about an hour. But it still looked really cute with his legs sticking out of the chimney. I had a big red sack, and a couple of reindeer sitting next to it. Wish I had a pic of it.
