People just don't seem appreciative when they come into my office and see my Christmas tree and hear the holiday music. I just don't get it. :)

Being the boss I would expect more enthusiasm than "Oh my God! Christmas already!"
In the past I have sent a company-wide email on July 5th informing people now that the 4th of July has past everyone should begin listening to Christmas music.

Well, I gotta admit...
I can be a Scrooge before Thanksgiving, and I tend to be that way with all the holidays. I plan for Halloween months in advance, and I hate to see the decor out before Oct the 1st as well.

I have to admit, I'm one of those who hates to see Christmas decor before Thanksgiving - sorry! I'm a "one season at a time" kinda girl...

I have to agree. If it is around too long I get burned out and it isn't special any more. that goes for lights, music, decor, gift shopping ads, tv specials, the whole nine yards.

I look forward to seeing it out. :)

Oh, I do too. Just not in October.
But if you want to listen to christmas music all year I don't mind. Just don't pipe it in to my cubicle. LOL

LOL. We only decorate before Thanksgiving if we don't think we'll have time starting the day after. However, I will listen to Christmas music at anytime of the year if I'm stressed. I find it soothing.

Movie theater or the stage?

I have the Charlie Brown Tree in my office and I get alot of cheery comments about it. I think thats more of a childhood memory for most though. If it was a full Christmas Tree I would probably get complaints

Movie theater or the stage?
Ryb, I am the "Lead Manager" at the Movie Theatre that I work at. I am not in charge, but I am second in charge. (someday, this movie theatre will be mine! ALL MINE!) LOL
I have been running movie theatres for 10 years now. I worked for the Largest Movie Theatre Chain in the world for 8 years as a General Manager, but that didn't pan out after that.... I moved to Vegas, and have never felt more at home in my life! I have worked for this company here in Vegas for 2 years now, and they LOVE my displays! (job security)
See "Ghoulaxy Theatres" thread or "2009 Penguin display" for further details!
Thanks

Ryb, there are several of us that also do stage. I think that may be one reason we like displays and atmospheres so much. :)

As far as our office goes, no one takes the time to decorate. I brought in one of my old 4ft trees to put in our lobby. Our receptionist got mad because my color scheme (red and white) didn't match her wreath, so she wouldn't put her wreath up, she does everything PURPLE. Sooo....as I was going through my attic to clean out I found two sets of purple lights and a set of gold lights. Will do the tree purple and gold to make her happy. Another box has been deleted from the attic and I make someone happy...win, win.

My brother is a professor at Truman University in Missouri teaching theater. He did design and construction for early music videos and was invited to be part of the Michael Jackson Thriller tour. He also worked with Tim Burton on some projects.

Ok, I have to admit that when October rolls around, I am listening to Christmas music at home, I may love Halloween (and I DO) but I can't WAIT till it's over so I can start decorating for Christmas.
I also begin looking at the decorations at work (I am the one in charge of the store decorations for Christmas.) Yes there are a few who grumble a bit about it being too early. But a smile, a sparkle in the eye, maybe a bit of good natured ribbing, and they usually come around. I make it my job to show everyone that Christmas IS a time to look forward to, anticipate, and be your best. I give one concession, though. I do NOT wear my Santa hat to work UNTILL the day after Thanksgiving, after that I wear it EVERY day untill Christmas.
I agree with the post by Spats (in another thread) that the birth of Christ was in another season other than winter. December was settled on originally to blatantly steal the winter holiday from the pagans by the early Christian church. I don't care. In my opinion, what's a few months (give or take) to a being who (in my opinion again) is eternal? That is the season that is traditional, correct or not does not matter to me.
It is when I feel that humanity IS worth saving, that it DOES have hope for the future. After an entire year of bad news (world wide) I can celibratre in the belief that people really do matter.
Bah, Humbug? Not in MY house!:):):):)

The people who have a problem with an early appearance of Christmas are the people who only see the commercial and financial part. People who can't wait for Christmas are the people who believe in the spirit of Christmas.

I work at Bloomingdales.
Christmas always starts in October.
You will have the customers complaining."Why is it out so early?"
My response,"If you didn't buy it, they wouldn't put it out"
By the time Christmas actually rolls around,we will be dismantling some of it.
sigh..such is life in retail.

I agree. Nobody really knows the exact date of Jesus's birth, so we can celebrate it anytime we want to (take a look at Presidents' Day, it's a celebration of Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays but they aren't on that day!) What ever the reasons why they chose Dec 25th, I don't care. As long as I'm able to celebrate his birth, then I'm happy. We're lucky. If some people had their way we wouldn't be able to say his name, let alone celebrate his birth!

We decked for Christmas at work a few years ago. Trees up on the factory floor and all. Folks really had a good time with it. Then we got a new member of management that would have personally taken it all down. He got fired. No one misses him at all. I still have the 7 ft tree I used. It comes apart in three sections so I wrapped the lights on so all the plugs would line up. Wired all the styrofoam balls in place. All I have to do is set the stand up. Put the tree together and plug it in! LOL I also have a cheep Nativity and stuffed Santa that I put under the tree. I think i'll bring it in when I come back from vacation and set it up. So far no one as told me I cant. But I haven't asked either. LOL
Great thread Rybcon!

That's terrific! I fast became the black sheep of my family because my father never approved of his son (me) going into acting. Granted, I've never been able to make a full time living at it, but the sheer joy of doing it makes most of it worthwhile.
To keep this on thread though...guess where I got to stock today at Wal-Mart? LOL Yep, the Christmas display section! I guess you could say my job has Christmas stuff up now! :D
