I had a ton of candles that had burned out, but still had a lot of wax left over, so I figured that between all of them I would have enough wax to make several smaller candles. Sure enough, after I melted all of wax that was left out of them, I had enough for two "new" candles and a good head start on a third. The problem I have now is that I don't know what to use for a wick?

Is there some way that I can make a wick or do you have to buy them from the craft store?

My house smells like scented candles now! :)

They aren't that expensive. do yourself a favor and go buy a bag of wicks. Or go on freecycle and ask for some. I use to make candles with my mother when I was in junior high. some of them were so beautiful. My favorite was to take a cardboard milk carton and cut the top off. Fill it with ice cubes then fill it with melted wax. As the wax melted the ice it would form craters in the wax and it looked so cool and pretty. Then you peel off the milk carton. I also use to whip the wax and pour it on the outside of the candle so it looked like ...ummmmm...I guess it looked like whipped wax. Pretty.

That reminds me that when I was a kid, my mom received the most unique candle... looked like a sunday with whipped cream and cherry. Just beautiful. Never saw another like it!

I do this all the time. I burn a 20 oz (jar) candle in a few days. I have 3 of them lit at all times. When it gets to low in the jar I no longer burn it as the jar gets very hot on the bottom. I take the wax out and will often add it to the other ones that have burned to low as well. Its a great way to recyle old wax. I don't know of anything a person could use other than actual wick. Would be interesting to hear if someone has tried anything else besides wick.

I've used cotton string- both braided and unbraided.

I think my brother and I tried that when we were kids. We sat out on the well outside the front porch with wax we heated up in tin cans. Dip the wick in. Pull the wick back out. Dip the wick in. Pull the wick back out. It sounded fun when we thought about doing it anyway. After about 5 minutes it got kinda boring. LOL I think that's the first and only time I'd ever done that.

Well I made it to the craft store the other day, and you were right, wicks don't cost much, lol! I got 8 feet of wick material for $2.00. The candles are burning great now, just like new!

I also found a small jar of glow in the dark paint... I know there's something awesome I could use this stuff for but I haven't figured it out yet. Any ideas for something that could be made better by glowing?

Your wife's butt, Light switches, Your shoes, your beer cans, the toilet seat, your cell phone...just a few things you may be looking for in the dark that would be easier to find if it glowed. LOL

Spray it on that thing you keep looking for that takes so long to find you forget what you were looking for to begin with. Everybody has one or two. Just don't remember what they are. LOL
