I got an email reply today from the Harpist I contacted. I inquired what she would charge to come & play for a couple of hours at a private residence.

It $350.00 for 2 hours......a bit out of my ballpark. I wanted her to play for my Xmas open house on the 19th of Dec.. I invited a bunch of the locals that came here for Halloween. Oh well!!

Set up a bucky at a homemade harp and play harp music with an echo. Oh yeah, he can wear a santa cap. :)

Wow, that is steep! Did you try others? Or maybe a student?

That may be a good point. Where in your area gives harp lessons? I bet many students would give their eyeteeth for the experience and a few bucks!

$350 for 2 hours for a live musician isn't that bad when you consider what's involved. They have rehearsal time for the music you've selected (normaly twice the time of the gig), transportation time and expense, setup time, and breakdown time. Not to mention the cost and care of their equipment. So depending on how far they travel, they could be making less than $50 per hour. A studio or session musician, or just voice talent averages upwards of $500 per hour.

I would, but I have a hard enough time supporting my family. :)

Oh I agree Spookineer....and I'm sure she's worth every penny. Just won't fit in my Dec. budget. I got so much goin on next month so I'm just trying to be careful. Its been awhile since I hired musicians......had a few accordian players play at my Diner on different occasions & hired a 7pc. country & western band once....so I'm a little familiar with cost. And for me as much as I enjoy live music its always worth it to me when I get to listen to them play.

yes indeed, and consider they can only have one client at a time. If they work your party, and maybe one the next night, that's probably as much as someone with an object as big and fragile as a harp can work into a weekend.

Have you checked with the local highschools? my daughter played in the school band and oddly enough they had afew kids that played the Harp. a few times kids in the neighborhood schools will play for special events in our town.
