Just planning mine, and wanted something different....anybody have any ideas? Other than turkey, stuffing/dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean cass, rolls, or sweet potatoes?

What about cornish hens for each guest, made like a turkey?

I would love having hens or ham, but I think if I don't give these people a turkey, then I might be strung up by my toenails. I was looking for different side dishes....but maybe I should just leave well enough alone?

ROTFLMAO!!!!!

I majored in speeched and lectures for my BS (initials are fitting, no?) . One speech I gave was why we should adopt the idea of insects in our diet as a protein source...and for the kicker, I passed homemade chocolate covered crickets out to whomever wanted them. LOL Surprisingly enough, most people DID want to try them. :)

They taste like chocolate covered rice crispies.

I don't know kids......if I added chocolate covered bugs to my wholesale candy price list.....I could charge top dollar & try to convince the customers that its a french delicacy!
Think they'd buy it?

How about some homemade Mac & cheese, made with Ziti pasta! 'Those long tube pasta noodles'.Yummmy & simple to do.
That's what I'll be bringing to the table and maybe even a pecan pie!
Now that my next door nieghbor has brought me some cracked pecans.
I think I'll do that for dessert.

It's not really a side dish but this time of year target sells Jones soda flavored like thanksgiving dinner. They have a turkey soda, etc. Might be something fun to add without having to make another dish.

This was the 2005 holiday pack, but they do one every year.....

And no, I've never tried it. LOL

LOL I have. The BBQ mealworms are like BBQed crispy showstring fries. They actually taste pretty good, but I love to watch people's faces when I eat them or dare them to try it. Those that do are pleasently surprised at the food and themselves.

CandyMan -- I make mac and cheese with a yummy crunchy top for christmas. It went over really well last year, good suggestion.
Rose -- I saw those at Target...don't have the stomach for it though! :)

I decided to do the usual stuff plus a spinach gratin...I'll let you know how it turned out in case your interested for Christmas!

The turkey is marinating in the fridge awaiting the BBQ on turkey day. Sides will be baked beans, stovetop stuffing, and for a green item, lime Jello. Dessert will be a Key Lime pie.

Packed them & delivered on routes! Definately the one in the bottle is better!! Oh...and Sickie I have worn a miner hat w/ the flashlight on it & a pair of knee pads & picked those suckers on the top of a mountain under the moonlight in Colorado!! Could you classify that as a "Romantic Date!"? lol
