OK, what's the worst gift you've ever gotten? And yes I know "it's the thought that counts" but c'mon - you know you've gotten an ugly too-small sweater from your aunt, or some tacky decoration in a Secret Santa exchange. Let's hear some of the your less-favorite gifts.

Hmmm..
1. Sweater (when I was a teen that thought fashion defined me) from my aunt (really) that was white with swirlly lines and at the end of the lines big ol' puff balls that came off the sweater by about an inch.
2. A friend who (also as a teen) handed out ridiculous gifts. I got a spatula.
3. A boyfriend who gave me a really nice portable cd player. I was the first person I knew that had one. It was stolen.
I have been pretty fortunate in the white elephant gift exchange, however, so I all evens out!

HEY....those can be very useful....(as I go unwrap my husbands, and go unceremoniously put them in his underwear drawer - while sobbing)

I've really never gotten a gift that I hated. When our family gets together for Christmas, though, someone always gives out dorky gifts. Last year we got this olive-green basket knitted out of some kind of really thick yarn or something. One of the ugliest things I've seen in my life.

Nope. :(
I think it's burried somewhere in a box in the basement. When we take out our Christmas stuff, I'll see if I can find it, lol.

I'm sorry I have to pull out these old threads like this....but sometimes you guys really make me have to think about some of these inquiries you have!!lol
Ok.......so this is the craziest Xmas gift......
When family went to Hawaii for Xmas I told my Aunt...I want a lamp for my desk that has a hula girl on it that moves & does the hula. My Aunt thinks Big & no matter what you tell her you want...she just cannot seem to bring herself to buy small things. So she shipped me...all the way from Hawaii a lamp that has a 4 1/2 ft. hula girl on it..( yes thats 4 1/2 FOOT!) She has a lei on her & a grass skirt w/ a mechanism that makes the grass skirt gyrate!
Now....move into a new neighborhood, a new house & try to explain to the new neighbors what the heck you are doing with a gyrating skirted hula girl. The fact that she shipped this monstrosity all the way from Hawaii was absolutely crazy! But she wanted me to feel like I was there w/ them because they were all mad cause I would not go along on this trip. She also sent a real fresh lei, pineapple from the Dole plantation, all kinds of souveniers & enough ornamenst to fill a small 3 foot Xmas tree, oh & did I mention the hula skirt with a coconut bra?
Yup...thats my Aunt!

My sister gave me the DVD version of the movie "Steel Magnolias". I've never seen the movie and never will !! That DVD is still in the wrapper and will stay that way until I can re-gift that puppy!!

Hard to remember the worst, but I can think of some bad ones.
My oldest brother's in-laws are sweet people, and they feel compelled to give us all gifts. Usually it's one of those $1 flashlights or a coffee mug.
My father in law has given me the same shirt for 2 years in a row, just in different colors. I can't describe it with justice. It has diamond patterns, sleeve patches, lots of buttons with straps...etc.. I can't figure it out. A cross between a fly fisherman's shirt and something Michael Jackson would wear. This guy also gave me a gun cleaning kit before I ever had a gun.

Does the worst gift I ever gave count? At a white elephant gift exchange a couple of years ago I gave a Fleets enema kit.

Two years ago my aunt and uncle gave us a USED car paint touch-up kit. They have always given bad gifts, but this topped the cake. They are very unthoughtful. Last year, thankfully, they gave me the best gift yet...nothing. Prefer it that way. Those two are like the black sheeps of the family anyway.

If I'm the black sheep, and the rest of the family are white sheep...does that make me a dirty little lamb?

My Dad died in 2001 and his wife boxed up TONS of his stuff and it got split up between my Brother and I. I think this will be the last year we can do this, but we take stuff from the boxes and wrap them up and give to each other and my Sister as gifts from "Dad".
One year my Brother found some old pill bottles (The brown glass ones) that my parents had kept the kids baby teeth in, he gave my sister hers and, I guess that with me being the last kid, by that time they stopped saving them (I do remember a few of mine in my Mom jewelery box) so I would not feel "left out" my brother gave me the teeth of my sister that died 6 years before I was born.
So yes I would say the worst gift I ever got was 'My Dead Sisters Baby Teeth'
Can't wait to see what I get this year!

Natascha,
I think yours takes the cake.
My grandparents ship out two big box's every year to my pearents house. When I was younger (like 9-15) my sister and I would pull out our gifts, carefully unwrap them, see what we got. If we diden't like the ones we got we would switch them with our siblings. One year I got a rainbow north carolina shirt and matching hat. I just had to switch it with my brother (who of course got the excat same thing.)

Oh my gosh, Natascha! Although it is a nice gesture, it doesn't sound to good when you say it like that!! :)
Excited to see if we have any good updates to this after the holidays -- or if anyone gets a Christmas Star made out of tampons like Santa Paws gave!! :D

Another year I got the (Yoho is my madien name) "Yoho Diaper" It was a cloth diaper with the words Yoho Diaper written in black ink on one corner.
My sister got one of my Dads framed degrees, she took it apart to reframe it and behind the degree was a postcard, she looked it over and threw it away, the next day on one of the 'Antique road shows' they showed a similar postcard, of course my sister digges the postcard out of the garbage and it is the same artist and the postcard was worth about $500.
I went back to the Yoho Diaper - Nothing worth $500 in it.
The worst gift I have received was from my neighbor two years ago, she gave me these horrible smelling incense, they were supposed to smell like roses but they smelt like rubber/plastic
My mum got a bad gift last year from the same neighbor and it was a old fashioned tea light in shape of a cottage, mum doesn't use candles lol and to top it off, the neighbor goes "I didn't buy you anything but found this at back of my shed" surprise:

I can't remember any of my bad gifts. Not very many. BUT......my daughter sure got one. My mother-in-law (unlike her son) tries to save money whenever she can. She also doesn't put much thought into what she buys. When my kids were 3,4 and 5 she went to a flea market and bought their Christmas gifts. My 3 yr old daughter got a used baby doll, with white hair about an inch and a half long that had been hacked off by another kid, obviously. It was all sticking up and poking out. The baby also had no clothes. It had ink marks on it and was quite a mess. When my daughter opened it she was rather scared of it. It sat in her toy box for several years, untouched, before I finally threw it away. Such was most of her gifts to us.

Wow, how did I miss this thread. Some of ya'll got some scary stuff. LOL
I got two that would fit this thread. Both from my brother.
I got an empty Tequila bottle. He knows I don't drink so maybe this was his way of sharing a drink with me?
A multi color but mostly yellow silk shirt. It looked like someone threw up crayons on a yellow shirt. LOL You might catch me in a dress shirt once every 5 years or so. But never crayon vomit on silk. LOL
but the gifts i've given...
a tie made out of corrugated metal
a jar of picked pigs feet
glow in the dark underwear.... and the list goes on...LOL

A $1000. What a cheapo. I usually get at least $2000 per gift. Haha, just kidding, I wish that was my worst gift. I actually have received anything too dumb actually.
Although, one year the only gift my dad got was rubber dog poop (courtesy of his kids). Haha, he didn't necessarily deserve it. It was just for fun more than anything. He's the kind of dad that doesn't really want anything, so when you do hint at what you want...you get retarded gifts. :)

Wow, after reading this, I feel pretty lucky to have been given the gifts that I've got over the years... I would say that my worst was when I was around 12 or 13 years old. I got a coffee mug with a picture of a turkey on it... I think I still have it somewhere. That same year, I also got some blaze orange socks. Those were quite the conversation piece at school though, lol. I also got some tee shirts that were so big, that there was no way that I could ever wear them, they would still be huge on me now. I suppose that wouldn't be all that bad, but those were the only gifts that I got that year. At least it taught me to be a thoughtful gift giver!

My absolute worst gift was a package of home made "goodies". The person that sent it did it out of obligation, not out of a genuine sense of wanting to send us a gift. We opened the box and there were jars of really nasty home made "stuff".
One of the jars contained a cloudy liquid, with corn and big wedges of onion in it. It was labeled Corn Chowder..what made this gift particularly bad was, the sender KNOWS I am highly allergic to onions.
The entire box was dumped in the garbage within minutes of opening. It was really funny though, but I guess you would have had to be there.

I hated it so much when my best friend gave me my xmas gift for him last year. It was a clocky alarm clock that i bought for him because he's totally hard to wake! He said he was broke, and promised to take it back someday. So, the year after that, guess what, out of the blue, I gave him the gift back! And his smile was priceless..

My Nana used to give some bad gifts. I can't blame her, she was getting forgetful, but you don't understand that when you're little and opening up boy's baby clothes, used dolls, and other strange knickknacks. She did get me a preloved American Girl though, so I can't hold it to her. :)

I always got the "dud" gifts in the classroom gift exchange when I was a child. One time I got used dominos. The absolute, most horrifying, was those green plastic Army men--the ones BOYS play with. I'm a Barbie girl, ya know!

My worst of all time gift was from a friend of mine who thought I would "enjoy"? a children's book. Was she KIDDING? I mean, I love her to death, but a children's book? WTH?:)

Well when I was thirty something my wife's mother gave me a "Cuddly Puppies" calendar.
Honorable mentions:
-Funnel
-Box of Cereal
-Music box, I think it played "Its a small world after all"...again....I am not a 12 year old girl
-Batteries
-Pencil eraser
The best part is all of these items are from my mother in law, who on one occasion gave me a bunch of cash. Good things come to those that wait
Almost forgot...every year in our office X-Mas exchange I end up with one of those stupid M&M dispensers

Back when we used to have small Christmas get togethers with friends, a coworker of my wife got some "stink perfume." As the name implies, it stunk. Of course, it was a novelty and just a gag, so I guess it doesn't count.

gosh... I am trying to think what awful gifts I have gotten over the years. Well, I remember last year that my sister's youngest boy gave me a coffee mug that says world's greatest aunt. I think I am vain enough to say that I dont care for that type of stuff. Oh well. do not worry. I still have the ugly mug. :)
