So, I said I was going to retire for the summer and enjoy the marina and cocktails that come with. But it rained here Sunday. And I ended up in the shop. And I had this motor from a kids car. And I had 2 stuffed animals. And here is what happened....

small merry-go-round. The slats on top will be painted like candy canes. The cup on top will be painted and is used as a topper. (sorry, no lights - not in the mood to be making slip rings for the power)Some paining frills along the way. Still work in progress.

Looks great, Dano!!
You're making me feel like I'm working in slow motion seeing all these fine Christmas props you are turning out.:)
You could always put some battery powered lights on it, but it probably won't need them.

I picked up a computer power supply at the flee market on Sunday for $3. I plan on using it to power this project and possibly 2 more (DC) and landscape lights (12v DC) to light this. Thought about the battery lights...but I'm all for less work after set up.

Real purty there, Dano! How did you attach the pvc to the motor?

The motor is from one of those Tiny Tykes cars. The terminal end of the motor has a 1.5in round coupler to which I attached an 1.5 to 1/2" pvc reducer. Then I have a small, maybe 2" 1/2 piece of tube that goes up thru the motor box, lazy susan and ultimatly the turntable at which time there is a coupler (1/2" to 1/2") then the pole. The coupler is glues to the turntable with 3M 5200. Great stuff - holds forever. Downside of that glue is there is no return in that it almost never comes apart. It's used in marine applications above / below the water line. But I digress.... The topper is a top to fence / railing post which was drilled out to accept the pvc tube, glued to the tube and also the round plate. The cany canes are glued to both. The rails were hand turned on my lathe since I couldn't find ones I wanted. They are glued / screwed to the turntable. The motor is going to be powered by a small train transformer I "acquired" which has variable voltage output. If I missed anything, let me know.

Very cool.

Where & how do you plan to display it? By itself is fine and would great. Inside a store window would be nice touch. Beside a little girl as if she just opened it as a gift. You could do so many things with that. It's really cool.

I think I have 3 of that exact penguin! Granted, I think I have about 120 penguins or more...

Looks great! I really like all the detail that you put into your props. But it needs more penguins! LOL

Great Job Dano! You do great work!

Looks great. You are so far ahead of the rest of us getting ready for Christmas, and most of us still have to do Halloween first! Yikes!
