View Full Version : Theraphy in Crafting, Prayers & Bunnies
Two weeks ago my best friend (for 31 years) Cindy was diagnosed with cancer. After spending a couple days with her in Chicago, I came home, found a pattern in a old tole painting magazine and got the jigsaw, wood, paint and fabric out and made some rabbits/bunnies that I will give to her for Easter. I should have been doing other things but I needed to do this and just try relaxing. I'm wondering if the majority find crafting as therapudic and relaxing as I do. So here's bunny crew.
Please say a prayer or two for Cindy? Lots are needed.

Val,
I'm sorry about Cindy getting cancer. I hope she will pull through. The bunnies are cute. Yes, I personally find crafting relaxing and therapeutic. Unless I get seriously stuck on a problem I can't solve, then I have to step back for awhile. But it keeps my mind sharp, busy, and off of other more serious problems. Prayers for Cindy coming through.

My dad had cancer. Not fun. Prayer definately sent her way.
OMG! You painted those??? Those are Fabulous!!!
Relaxing in crafts? You bet! Especially with everything that goes on here....that is, of course, until Pickie Ickie starts yelling at me to get other stuff done.

Best to your freind, Val.
My mom has been toll painting for years and is actually very good now. She has taught me along the way - some tricks I use for my cut out display items. LOVE the bunnies!!!

The bunnies are adorable, Val. I agree that crafting is a great way to decompress -- at least when I'm not on a deadline.
I have said a prayer for you and your friend. Cancer sucks, to be sure. I'm so sorry.

Bummer Val, Be prayin for Cindy as well. Totally cool rabbits. Great job. Therapudic and relaxing? Only when I'm not trying to figure out something without any directions. LOL
A BIG Thank You to everyone for the prayers from both Cindy and I. Her attitude is amazing and tonight she let me know that she is “taking the bull by the horns” in her words :)
Thanks everyone for the compliments on the bunnies too. DanoNJ, I knew you had some experience when I seen the snowman and the shading on him, he is so cute!
Putrid, I tend to stay away from things that don’t have a pattern. I can’t draw. I give you people a lot of credit who take on the projects that you have envisioned in your mind and complete them even though there is some frustration. Every time I’ve tried something like that, it rarely turns out.
Thanks again everyone.

......... Every time I’ve tried something like that, it rarely turns out.
LMAO Val. Ya I know. I've been there more times than I can count I just take what kinda worked in one try with what I think might work in the next. Keep going with it till I make something. Usually not what I started out to make. LOL

Sorry to hear about your friend Val, will keep her in my prayers!
I also find crafts relaxing, keep me grounded, I love the bunnies, I can tell they are from a older type tole book, have a few of those myself, but the faces they used to paint on things back then were so cute! I haven't done as much painting recently as I used to, but I used to enjoy it alot, ought to get back to it sometime.

Is the face a stencil?
Putrid… that’s exactly what I’m talking about! LOL The rare time or two that I have tried a project with just what I have in my head did not come out the way I thought it would. But then again “Patience” is not my middle name either. So I turn to patterns. The patterns sure aren’t as challenging as what you and some of the people here do and that’s why I envy the ones who can do things like in this recent challenge… everyone did such a great job!
Bethene… Thank you for the prayers. She is now bound and determined to beat it.
I agree about the older tole books and the faces changing over the years. I think that’s one of the reason’s I can’t part with these older books and magazines… I keep telling myself I’ll get back into it and I have a bit here and there with some pumpkins and penguins and a very goofy looking moose and now the bunnies. But there is always something else I want to do! LOL I’m sure a lot of you can relate to that last statement heh?
Sickie, it's not a stencil. The patterns are actually drawings. You trace the drawing onto the wood or canvas or whatever and then paint. It very much like the big yard art patterns you can get from Sherwood or Winfield but smaller versions with much more detail in them.
