When looking threw Ebay for toy ideas for the Christmas prop contest I came across this post card. A twist on the Goldylocks fairy tell.

1. I like how it reads "Hearty Christmas Greetings" then add the forks and knives! NICE!

2. What beautiful graphics for being over 100 years old!

3. Doesn't the fork the left little bear is holding seem a bit demonic????

So, if I read this correctly, for $12 you could get a 100 year old postcard - in color!

Pretty Cool!

Not a bad price. Considering I was just at an auction where old post cards were going for $60 to $120 a piece.

I seen a few old post cards that depicted Santa stuffing crying children in his bag to be carried away. Even one that depicted an act of a group of boys experimenting with sexuality. These were all mass produced Christmas post cards. Not something you'd find in any card section in your local Wal marts. LOL

...of course you always had your "French" post cards.

putrid
02-02-2009, 02:07 PM
Most of the old post cards I've seen have been American, English or German. Haven't seen or didn't know if it was, any French.

Theedwin. The intense and depth of color in all the old lithographs is unreal. Even with all our technology we still can't mach what they were able to do. Of corse they were using toxic chemicals and tons of lead in their pigments. Not something we could use today. All the ones i've seen up close look like they were just hand painted.

Putrid, french post cards was slang in the earlier decades for "dirty pictures" postcards. Even the musical Oklahoma! makes a reference to it. :p

Sickie,

You are one "Sickie" Sickie!!!

HA HA, that was a joke! It was meant to be funny......

But great pointing out "the frenchies" HO HO

I agree Putrid, the cards of today are nothing compared to those. Even printing today seems to lack the color (colour) depth that it did even 50 years ago! (and I'm not even 50!)

Things are going to far when you can't use real colors (colours) today.

Maybe we should go back to extracting berry "droppings" to re-fill our ink cartridges....

Eventually "Latex" paint will be harmful and children will possibly eat it and die....

What ever happend to "Big 'Ol Cars" that used to beat each other up rather than "crumple zones" that seem to kill people!

Well guys, I am gonna have another beer, watch "Family Guy" and go to bed!

Not all things have changed for the worst Theedwin. However I totally agree with you on cars. With all the advancements we've done you think there would be better and safer bodies on cars. Greed is the ONLY reason cars cost as much as they do.
And speaking of changes for the better. I have an add in an old mag. for Krylon glow in the dark paint. It's a uranium based paint. Even suggests spraying it on your Christmas tree. Kitchen cabinets. Or even your Ice Box. LOL There's also an add for a writing pen with an uranium tip. "You don't need the lights on to write." And 100's of thousands of people ended up sick because of the original green M@Ms. I've eaten enough BHT in my lifetime to guarantee I'll never rot. LOL Good to see it's use on the decline. I'm all for science and technology. If it can make folks lives better it's good. Until we find out otherwise.

You got me Sickie Ickie. I have no idea what that card is all about either. Could have been a popular story or comic strip at one time. A Darwin pun?

Nothing says "Merry Christmas" like a dressed monkey with ice skates and a bunch of sharks and piranhas and a lobster!

Merry ol' Jake
Had a monkey's gait
Or so the tales tell
On winter's day he skated away.
Through the ice he fell.

Sharks with teeth
Eyed him like prime beef
Crustaceans were no better.
For gosh sake
Who would rescue Jake
He couldn't get wetter.

From the South
Came a big jolly shout
"Be there in a shake!"
On his way
He went in his slegh
To save poor furry Jake.

Matters looked bleak
As the dangers peaked
What was Jake to do?
In splashed hands,
Pulled Jake to dry lands
What a site to view.

Santa was there
With his snow wet hair
Jake shivered with wide eyes
"Glad to help,"
Called the man himself
As his sleigh took off for the skies.

Did you know that the Model T Ford got 34 miles per gallon and was FLEX-FUEL!?? That was 100 years ago! How many new cars today do either of those things? Not much progress when you think about it.

Putrid, Do you remember I told you I made a toy chest for my son and made clay toys to go in it? The teddy bear I made looked exactly like those bears. How funny. They are my favorite style of teddy. Well actually my favorite style of "teddy" has lace around the edges, and is made of silky satin....ha ha. just kidding.

Sickie I am so impressed with your poetry. It really swept me off my feet. LOL But it really was quite clever.

Ted, Modal T's didn't have much to them as far as suspension and a body. Very light weight and wasn't built to go that fast. No heater, no starter, no inclosed cab. It might have gotten great gas milage but no one today gets their arm broken if the car doesn't want to start. Unless they do something stupid like punch the car. LOL What is Flex fuel?

A satin teddy with lace and made of clay??? Just how hot to you have to be to bake that clay? LOL

About 250 for an hour and a half?

theedwin

Putrid,

Flex Fuel refers to the ability of a vehicle/engine to accept both regular gasoline and *E85 fuel. *E85 fuel is 85% ethanol and 15% regular gas, or something like that. And as far as the * is concerned, I don't know what that is, but you always seem to see it where ever you get the stuff.... I guess. Only certain vehicles can use E85, and you can tell by the fact that the vehicle has a yellow gas cap. I am sure that there are other fuels that can be referred to as "flex" but that is what I know of right now.

Urg...just wrote a huge reply about E85 that I erased. I hate that. To sum up:

My car has E85...but I don't use it. I could list several reasons why -- price, economical concerns, location of pumps -- so I have mixed feelings about it.

Sickie Ickie
03-05-2009, 06:28 AM
yeah. Let's face it. Alternative fuels won't be popular unless they are easy to get at almost any gas station. :(

Now back to your crazy postcards. :D

putrid
03-05-2009, 05:04 PM
Alternative fuels wont be popular until someone comes out with one that wont burn out the inside of an engine. That was the original problem with ethanol additives.

Still looking for more odd Christmas cards. Seen some old prints but no cards.
